Hi. I'm a bit stuck at the moment with an issue on Teams. The company I work for has recently been taken over by a large corporate and this morning they wiped my laptop in the expectation I would reformat it with a clean install and provision it with their InTune. This seemed to go well at first, I installed Windows 11 23H2 from an ISO I downloaded, and the provisioning was successful. They are using the BeyondTrust Privilege Manager to stop people installing software and even though I have extra perms to install I am still prompted. Getting JFW 2024 installed was a bit of an issue. This also does some other lockdown of the system but unsure what and how it is locked down. The main issue though is that the InTune installed Teams on the device, and when I go into Teams I get absolutely no speech in any part of the app. I have tried several things to rectify this without issue. Its Teams Classic version 1.6.00.28554 that is installed. The version of Office they have installed is 16130.20810 which is from the 2302 semi-annual enterprise channel. Has anyone seen this issue where Teams is completely unusable with JFW? At this point I'm not sure if it's a problem with this BeyondTrust software or something in Teams, but its going to cause me a bit of a headache next week if I can't get this resolved quickly. Thanks. Andrew.
Hi Andrew. Whilst I don't have an immediate solution to the teams issue, could you perhaps try joining a meeting via chrome/edge and see if it lets you and if you lose speech? Cheers, Mo. On 03/11/2023 18:11, Andrew Hodgson via Blind-sysadmins wrote:

Hi. Yep web version of Teams works fine. Joining a meeting with the desktop version still gives no speech. I can use the web version as a stopgap for now but its not going to work long-term. Hi Andrew, I had a similar issue with MS Word and Excel where JAWS wouldn't read a lot of items and ended up tracking down that the Malware Bytes EDR solution we had was the reason for the issue. Since I am the Cyber Security Manager, and have all the necessary permissions; I added exemptions to Malware Bytes which solved the issue. I would see if they would be willing to do that in their security solution. Hi. Thanks for that. I think I am going to need a lot of luck. Do you know what feature stopped this from working in your security package? Right now I have tracked down 2 separate packages installed, the BeyondTrust Endpoint Privilege Management and the ForcePoint agent, so either of these could be doing something here. Of course most of the support is in India so trying to explain this to someone who can understand is going to be very tricky. Hi Andrew, It seemed to be the Antivirus portion, but I am not 100% sure. It was killing my productivity, so I reached out to Freedom and they stated this was a relatively common occurrence. So, I exempted the entire FS folder. That mostly solved it. A little while later it happened again and I just disabled real time protection as I am extremely cautious on that machine and have other means to monitor it. Sometimes, I think JAWS needs a total rewrite. I have a continuously paid for SMA and update it every chance I get. Never the less, I am more often having to use NVDA to do things that JAWS just can't seem to handle as a power user. I hope you are able to figure it out. If you have local admin, can you temporarily disable either one of those systems? Hi Andrew, I do believe its got something to do with Beyond trust's EPM. I am having endless issues with this product and jaws, i.e. if I try and get to the system tray, or use some stuff related to jaws specifically its as though the keys would get stuck. Even if I use powershell, JAWS wont read much and the keys don't work well its like I have sticky keys turned on. Luckily for now I'm avoiding it somehow just because of the access I have, but I'm sure they will catch up with me. Updating JAWS is a pain as the EDR software the company uses is set to block child processes of an app or if an app invokes other processes. I honestly just find that JAWS even sometimes NVDA doesn't work quite well if no admin rights are given. Kind Regards -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Hodgson via Blind-sysadmins <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Friday, November 3, 2023 8:11 PM To: Blind sysadmins list <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Cc: Andrew Hodgson <andrew@hodgson.io> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Teams woes on a new laptop install Hi. Hi. For anyone that was curious, this finally got sorted out on Thursday. It took nearly 3 months to get there but was a simple settings change in Beyond Trust. We had to add Freedom Scientific Inc. as an allowed publisher in the system. From a Beyond Trust point of view it looks like my system is constantly running with elevation, but that isn't my problem. I know we all know this but being blind in such a large company isn't fun. I initially discussed this issue with people in the company on the week of the 6th November, and it didn't get sorted out until 25th January. During this time I had to escalate the issue several times with directors, deal with HR regarding the legal ramifications of lack of access and some scary discussions based on that, try and justify why I needed JFW installed at all, and more meetings than I can shake a stick at with people who had no clues about how a screen reader worked. It took a final escalation on my part this Monday to finally get to speak to the people that run the Beyond Trust and we got the issue sorted within an hour. I was also slightly dismayed with the support I got from both Sight and Sound and to an extent Freedom Scientific. Both companies suggested I get someone to script the software for me which wasn't the answer. To give them credit Freedom Scientific did eventually come back to me with the info that turned out to fix the issue in the end, but it took more investigation from myself and the Beyond Trust administrator to get there. The info has been sent to FS now so hopefully they will be able to help other people with this. I actually like how Beyond Trust works, this issue was 99% dealing with process and me having to constantly remind teams to actually progress the issue. I can well understand how blind people without the determination or technical know-how wouldn't be able to survive in such a position which is a crying shame. Thanks. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Hodgson via Blind-sysadmins <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Friday, November 3, 2023 6:11 PM To: Blind sysadmins list <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Cc: Andrew Hodgson <andrew@hodgson.io> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Teams woes on a new laptop install Hi.
