Accessibility, audio and speech support, Kali Linux, Parrot OS, System Rescue CD, running from a USB multiboot disk
Hello, Is anyone running one, sum, or all of the above distros specifically from either a single bootable USB stick or a multiboot USB stick? If so, how did you get audio and speech going in each of the distros on the disk? Also, if your using a multiboot do you use shared caching or persistent storage so that OS settings persist across reboots? Thanks. Dave.
Hi, I use Clonezilla Live (Debian Edition) instead of System Resque CD. This is very accessible and you have a lot of tools as well. And you can have a lot of fun with the shell. Would be interested to see if Kali is working again now. Had Version 1 or 2 I forget which working in VMWare but a newer version broke it. Another blind guy posted on their forum at the time but was never resolved as far as I know. The acccessibility or otherwise of some of the GUI tools was another matter. Chris. The last few times I've had to rescue a machine, I used the regular Ubuntu Linux live ISO image. I used to use GRML but I had an Ubuntu installation CD-ROM and/or thumb drive available anyway. So I just used that. On 3/7/23 07:45, Eigeldinger Simon wrote:

Hi, 👍 Yes, as long as the needed tools are there take whatever you prefer. I guess also the arch linux iso might also be interesting to look at as well. Especially when you have multiple soundcards in the machine. Greetings, Simon -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: John G. Heim <jheim@math.wisc.edu> Gesendet: Dienstag, 7. Hello, Got output on the virtual serial port with teraterm connected to it to interpret, the problem is it hit the point right after it loaded sysrescd.img (forgive that spelling it's not right in front of me) then nothing, does the shell come up or do I have to alter the iso boot up files to get output past ehe .img loading on the terminal? Thanks. Dave. On 3/7/23, John G. Heim via Blind-sysadmins <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> wrote:

I've had success with Grml, which is also Debian-based. However, I haven't had a need for it in recent years, so I can't comment on its current state of accessibility. BRLTTY and Speakup are included by default. There are command line options for accessibility that you can specify during the boot process as documented on the GRML wiki, and once it boots, you are presented with a root shell - so it's all smooth from there.
