More on the aerohives, not so bad and pretty accessible
Hi, so I posted a while ago about Aerohives and wondered if anyone had used their products. For what it's worth, I just deployed 8 access points and a hive manager with out to much trouble and no eyeballs required. The manager is web based but the web content is pretty simple and JFW 10 doesn't have any issues. The access points themselves use a standard serial cable for console access and have an IOS like command line interface. (not IOS but sort of similar) You get all sorts of configurable features and while the configuration flow is a little screwy it's not totally illogical. If you need a wireless infrastructure and need accessible devices aerohive might be for you. Also, the support is very responsive. Thanks Scott
Greetings, Just wondering if any of you have ideas in relation to what the most accessible proxy software for Windows is out there? I've used mail washer and found that fine. I will need to implement a proxy in a small remote office shortly and at the moment, I've no limitations as to what product I choose. I'm open to open source alternatives also. Thanks Darragh
Hi, What do you mean by Proxy? I first thought you meant an HTTP web proxy, but then you mentioned Mail Washer, so what is it you are trying to do exactly? Thanks. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Darragh.OHeiligh@Oireachtas.ie Sent: 03 December 2009 11:10 To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Proxys. Uups. Mailwasher? I meant web washer. Sorry. was thinking of something else. Yes. It's a web proxy. Basically block everything going out from anything other than the server except port 80 and 443 and give me a report on the web usage at the end of every month. Certain sites should have warning notices on them that allow users to visit them but warn them that their usage is being monitored. Regards Darragh Ó Héiligh
Hi, I used to do this with ISA Server and Websense, but may be out of budget as it is quite expensive? We moved to a Linux solution called Bloxx - this works on a Linux appliance platform. Wingate will do this and used to be accessible, may be cheaper. Thanks. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Darragh.OHeiligh@Oireachtas.ie Sent: 03 December 2009 11:35 To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Proxys. Not sure about windows but what about good old Squid? I'm deploying Squid where I work and so far it's pretty interesting plus very flexable. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Darragh.OHeiligh@Oireachtas.ie> To: "Blind sysadmins list" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Thursday, December 03, 2009 3:10 AM Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Proxys. Hi, Our appliance uses Squid as the proxy cache, we just used the appliance frontend (and spent the money) so that we could get the nice HTTP interface and reporting for managers, so they don't ask us all the time for reporting information or constantly asking us to unblock URLs etc. Thanks. Darragh: Not sure if this is what you're looking for as these aren't proxies as much as devices that sit in front of the router and handle traffic that way, but we currently use a product called Sentry from Symtec http://www.cymtec.com/cymtec-sentry.html In the past we've also used the Smartfilter software, now owned by Mcafee http://www.mcafee.com/us/enterprise/products/email_and_web_security/web/smar... The Sentry works pretty well, it does a lot more than web filtering so again may not be what you want. The block lists in the two products are actually the exact same as well. Squid is also a popular, open-source proxy option--running on Windows or Linux
