Authenticating using Authy, Google Authenticator, etc.
Hi, I'm a newbie when it comes to these and haven't yet tried setting one up. My question is what's the easiest way to get a QR code into the authenticator app? All documentation talks about scanning it, something at which I'm not terribly skilled. I'd appreciate it if you'd share your experiences and offer up advice. When setting up google authenticater with lastpass, dropbox, microsoft, ETC, they had a code way of entering it into the app which worked. On 1 February 2018 at 15:20, Glen Gordon <GGordon@vfogroup.com> wrote:

I've never tried that, but I normally use the manual option where they provide you with a URL that you have to type in. Sort of a pain considering most of them appear to us as nonsensical, but they work. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Glen Gordon Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2018 10:20 AM To: 'Blind sysadmins list' <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Authenticating using Authy, Google Authenticator, etc. Hi, I'm a newbie when it comes to these and haven't yet tried setting one up. I also enter the encryption key manually, which can be slow on a touch screen. Another option that I've found to be useful is to write a script that runs oathtool (with the correct key) to generate the one-time passwords. Just switch to a terminal, run the script, and copy the six-digit code into the text field of the Web application that requires dual-factor authentication. You can run the script on a remote host over ssh if you think there's better security to be had that way.
