Hi folks, Would any of you know where to start setting this up? I've a 28830. I see under bandwidth management, QUOS, but when I go in I can only see WAN1, 2, and 3. I'm looking to create a SSID for the AP, then setup QUOS on this. I havent' a clue where to start on this, googling and searching for Youtube videos haven't helped me in the slightest. Anyone? Cheers, Barry.
Hi Barry, I think you have to select your WAN port first. I am also new to Draytek and have a 2860. So select Wan1 which is your primary Internet if you want to put QOS (Not QUOS) on it. I could be wrong here but wouldn't you attach QOS and a classifier to your WAN and then another mechanism to prioritize packets on the wireless side, something like WMM?
I haven't worked with that brand of router but QOS to me means packet classifiers and prioritization of traffic on the wire and wireless uses different mechanics to get that done.

I would think so, but I don't use QOS personally.

So if I had to guess I would assume you enable QOS and build your rules then enable WMM on the wireless side. If you get stuck I can see if we have one of these units in inventory to test.

In my experience many routers only do QOS on the wan ports. QOS can work most effectively with sent traffic and can only limit the rate of received Traffic. this works wel for receive for tcp but doesn't help if you get flooded by UDP. I actually did 2 presentations on how QOS works, They are free and should be here: http://www.cucat.org/cavicasts/2012/ Usually the wireless is on a bridge with the ethernet, and they don't handle packets for QOS separately. Your router may in fact do this I have no idea. I use Mikrotik for this stuff, http://www.mikrotik.com/ but they are a bit low on 5ghz radios. you can run the bridge through the QOS firewall on this device or take the wifi stuff off the bridge. Hi,
I wonder if what the op actually wants is to do QOS on the WAN and for
said QOS to affect WIFI usage without specifically using QOS on the
WIFI? E.G. QOS on the WAN could be used to make sure that a WIFI
client downloading a torrent is only able to use x% of available
download bandwidth. Their WIFI throughput would remain untouched so
they would for example be able to make a file transfer to a local
machine without being throttled, but anything on the WAN is subjected
to QOS.
I don't own a Draytek anyway so I can't help with specifics; just
wanted to make sure that people were answering the question that the
op wants answered.
Cheers,
Ben.
