microsoft virtual pc and adding a second hard disk
Good afternoon listers, I just found this list. I am currently working with Microsoft virtual pc 2007 and jaws. I have created a second virtual hard disk using the virtual disk wizard and set the second disk in my virtual machine to point to it. Why doesn't this disk show up under my computer. I have xp pro as the host and guest os. I am talking about showing up under the guest os. Thanks for any advice. Rick
Hi, Without a lot of experience with virtual pc 2007 i'd have to say that the problem is that virtual disk needs to be partitioned and formatted. I hope someone corrects me about this next statement, but under xp and server OS's the disk manager app is not accessible for creating partitions on disks, i hope that's wrong, but i haven't been able to get it to work. I use diskpart to partition disks. Once they're partitioned how i like them i use diskpart's assign command to give them a drive letter, then i can close out of diskpart and go to my computer and format the disk. Hi Dave, On a bit of an unrelated question. Which do you find more usable with jaws, Microsoft virtual pc or vmware. Hi, VPC for doing quick and dirty virtualisation jobs (i.e, testing etc). Vmware for the fine-grained configuration tasks, or if you want to do something long-term on a server that is already running Windows Server 200x, or want to run anything other than Windows on the VPC (VPC 2007 doesn't cope well with Linux, and a lot of people are shipping Vmware Linux images). I hate Virtual server with a passion. Vmware is too complex for the desktop user who wants to just get the virtual image up and running in a test environment. Thanks. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of rick watson Sent: 09 March 2009 19:46 To: dave.mehler@gmail.com; 'Blind sysadmins list' Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] microsoft virtual pc and adding a second hard disk Hi Dave, On a bit of an unrelated question. Hi, You are correct about that issue - VPC won't partition/format the disks for you once assigned. As I have some sight, have no problems with the disk management in XP, though I use it with the virtual cursor on the screen reader. Diskpart is also a good option as well, though I find the command syntax to be clunky (as in all MS CLI implementations (including Powerhell)). Thanks. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Dave Sent: 09 March 2009 19:43 To: 'Blind sysadmins list' Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] microsoft virtual pc and adding a second hard disk Hi, Without a lot of experience with virtual pc 2007 i'd have to say that the problem is that virtual disk needs to be partitioned and formatted.
