Microsoft released patches to mitigate the meltdown threat and will soon release microcode updates to fix spectre, so there will be no need to manually go into the BIOS which is of course very difficult and time consuming to perform on a large network. Intel are apparently making the microcode available to Microsoft and this will be able to update the processors because of a couple of DLL files within windows which make this possible. Curretnly there are no threats out in the wild and even if there was its not very likely that individuals would be at threat. I think waiting for Microsoft to make these patches available is the best option, although it sounds like they might not come through windows update so you would have to visit the catalogue and download them manually then distribute them through your network. We have a bunch (around 100) of HP machines over here which we need to upgrade because of the meltdown/spectre problems. How are you going to deal with meltdown/spectre and bios updates? Has someone already updated their client computers?
