Hi folks, I've been asked to lead our MDM in work. I've looked at two systems, Airwatch and Meraki. After testing both systems I've opted for Meraki. A Because it's free for a MDM Systems management and B because it's much more simple to implament. I've some questions I'd like to bounce around regarding Profiles, Tags, and Apple ID's and would love to speak to anyone who's designed an MDM. I've my questions written down and can post to the list or am happy to speak to people offline. Any takers? Thanks, Barry. Darragh, we really must meet up and have this pint!
Some of my questions maybe connected to Meraki, but they hopefully will be reasonably generic across the board. If you've anything either today or when you get a chance you can offer into this lot please do!
I am attempting to design our infrastructure, rather than just slap profiles down on devices willy nilly. I was wondering if you can answer some questions for me concerning how Meraki would help me to achieve the following?
Firstly I need to understand what the difference is between Profiles and Tags? Can I set a Profile up for say Finance, and have a general set of settings and apps associated with these Profile. Do Tags allow me to refine the Profile to add and/or remove settings and apps from the generic Finance Profile?
Secondly on Apple ID’s. Am I correct that when purchasing apps, be they paid or free each app gets associated with an individual Apple ID? How would Meraki facilitate this? I have heard that it is possible to set up a master Apple ID and create Alias’s off from this? How would this work in practice? For example I would like to push some apps to members for the IT Department as a general setup, but would only like certain staff to have other apps.
I have 6 devices enrolled on the MDM for testing at the moment and have GPS tracking them. It's fully accessible in that I can view all the device details, Erase devices, reboot devices, rename, push apps to them etc. Meraki doesn’t' have a RDP for mobile at the moment, but it does fro Windows and I believe OSX. It also has a nifty Commandline, that I hope to utilise down the line when I get this on Windows boxes.
Thanks,
Barry.
