Hello, I've got a windows machine that i'm needing to repartition. It's got a single 2TB drive in it, i'm needing to cut that roughly in quarters 500GB a partition. I've got a PE I have never done this, if anyone has any tool recommendations i'd appreciate it. Thanks. Dave.

As far as I know the only thing you can do with the volume that Windows is on is shrink it and then create extra partitions. You can’t change the volume type or disk type, you can’t add it to a dynamic disk or anything like that. So is what I’m saying is if all you want to do is shrink windows’ partition into quarters then, using the same hard drive, create another three partitions each 500 GB, that should work. Luke

I've used the GUI because you don't have to remember the numbers of the disks connected to your machine. open the Create and Format disk Partitions app (on win 10 you can hit win+X then disk partition is in the list that pops up, i think it's shortcut is K) Next, accept the admin prompts - do remember though making mistakes with diskpart could cause drives to break - and wait for the machine to scan all your drives. The volumes and info about them will be displayed in a list, go down to the volume you want to extend and right click on it. Select shrink volume in the menu and it should pop up with the shrink volume wizard. It'll then ask you in this wizard how much you want to shrink the volume, it's default is the max you can shrink. Remember it also works in MB so for 500 GB you'll want 512000 MB. Once your volume has been shrunk, left arrow on the shrunk volume and you'll get to the graphical view table, right click again and select create new simple volume, follow that wizard and you'll have your new volumes. Remember it also works in MB so for 500 GB you'll want 512000 MB. Once your volume has been shrunk, left arrow on the shrunk volume and you'll get to the graphical view table, right click again and select create new simple volume, follow that wizard and you'll have your new volumes. The volumes and info about them will be displayed in a list, go down to the volume you want to extend and right click on it. Select shrink volume in the menu and it should pop up with the shrink volume wizard. It'll then ask you in this wizard how much you want to shrink the volume, it's default is the max you can shrink. Remember it also works in MB so for 500 GB you'll want 512000 MB. Once your volume has been shrunk, left arrow on the shrunk volume and you'll get to the graphical view table, right click again and select create new simple volume, follow that wizard and you'll have your new volumes. Remember it also works in MB so for 500 GB you'll want 512000 MB. Once your volume has been shrunk, left arrow on the shrunk volume and you'll get to the graphical view table, right click again and select create new simple volume, follow that wizard and you'll have your new volumes. The volumes and info about them will be displayed in a list, go down to the volume you want to extend and right click on it. Select shrink volume in the menu and it should pop up with the shrink volume wizard. It'll then ask you in this wizard how much you want to shrink the volume, it's default is the max you can shrink. Remember it also works in MB so for 500 GB you'll want 512000 MB. Once your volume has been shrunk, left arrow on the shrunk volume and you'll get to the graphical view table, right click again and select create new simple volume, follow that wizard and you'll have your new volumes. I've used the GUI because you don't have to remember the numbers of the disks connected to your machine. open the Create and Format disk Partitions app (on win 10 you can hit win+X then disk partition is in the list that pops up, i think it's shortcut is K) Next, accept the admin prompts - do remember though making mistakes with diskpart could cause drives to break - and wait for the machine to scan all your drives. The volumes and info about them will be displayed in a list, go down to the volume you want to extend and right click on it. Select shrink volume in the menu and it should pop up with the shrink volume wizard. It'll then ask you in this wizard how much you want to shrink the volume, it's default is the max you can shrink. Remember it also works in MB so for 500 GB you'll want 512000 MB. Once your volume has been shrunk, left arrow on the shrunk volume and you'll get to the graphical view table, right click again and select create new simple volume, follow that wizard and you'll have your new volumes.
