hello friends: need quick help please, how can I format a hard disk which can not be recovered forever by any means? )data destroyed( the hard was have windows format then formatted and now have Linux, I need to delete all partitions and delete any data to be unusable anymore even via military means. can we do this? for further information contact me off list. thanks ibraam
Slave the drive in another box, download
http://cmrr.ucsd.edu/people/Hughes/SecureErase.shtml
And then run it on the drive.
Note that you have to have the drive connected directly to the board
as apposed to via usb, since the program uses the secure erase command
built into the ata command set to whipe the drive which it is unable
to do via usb.
Hth.

I'm not sure what there is that will do this under linux, but the
program that I linked you too doesn't care about what file system your
drive has.
If for what ever reason you don't want to use it, look for a program
that uses the secure erase ata command. Any other programs may not
completely remove data since they are using there own formatting
methods where as secure erase will truly remove everything.
I think there was 1 case where a large team were able to get something
back, but that was a 30k jpg and it took them 3 months.
