Unable to get into a Asus routers web admin - This Connection Is Not Private
Hi all, This is driving me crackers as I’m going round in circles. I have an Asus at home and can no longer access the web admin through any browser, on Windows, Mac, or IOS. FYI I have established this is my Gateway address I’m trying to access. My setup here is a Asus router with it’s SSID’s disabled, and a TP Link Deco plugged into a LAN port, the Deco is set to AP mode as are the other units around the place creating a mesh network. I have connected over the air before, but just for giggles I did plug a Mac directly into the Asus router. I get the connection not trusted page from Safari, which from what I can establish is Safari cautioning about the Certificate being invalid. I click on the prompts in Safari that will let me add the Certificate to the trusted Certificates in my browser. I go round and round giving permission but not getting in. I did get in once on a Windows machine this morning and it took me to what looked like an iCloud page, asking who is coming home with authentication fields. I didn’t enter anything until I did more research. When I try and access the Gateway on IOS I am told that the AI Cloud account is locked. From what I can gather this is something with Asus for sharing but that I haven’t used. To add more mystery…. I have downloaded the Asus Router IOS app to a iPhone that is on the same Network. It sees the router but just says the connection has failed. The internet connection appears to be working well…. Has anyone got suggestions for what I can try next please? The only thing I can think of is hitting the routers reset button… Cheers, Barry.
Do you hit authentication page at all with any browser? Does IOS Asus app prompt you to enter user name and password to connect to router? I am not sure if it is Asus routers but I have stumbled a pong such thing as safe mode or recovery mode on some routers, don't remember which one exactly, but if you can brows on the web then it is probably not the thing. -----Original Message--- From: Barry Toner <barry@tonermail.co.uk> Sent: Tuesday, July 2, 2019 12:30 PM To: Blind sysadmins list <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Unable to get into a Asus routers web admin - This Connection Is Not Private Hi all, This is driving me crackers as I’m going round in circles. I hit an authentication page with Firefox but nothing happens when I enter the details. It seems this might be something to do with enabling WAN access and using https Chrome on OSX almost gets to the authentication page after I store it’s certificate but hangs. Thanks, Barry.

This is because you have only SSL enabled in the settings of your Asus router. Try chrome browser and use https://192.168.1.1:8443 substitute IP for your router IP. You should be able to get local routers authentication page not AI page. I hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From: Barry Toner <barry@tonermail.co.uk> Sent: Tuesday, July 2, 2019 1:15 PM To: Blind sysadmins list <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: Unable to get into a Asus routers web admin - This Connection Is Not Private I hit an authentication page with Firefox but nothing happens when I enter the details. Not that I can see, Barry, but I'm sure if you explain your predicament, they will do their best. It might help if you have the external IP address of the router. If they can ping it, you might be in with a chance. Do you even have something like Team Viewer installed. That said, I am sure they will have a means of getting secure access to your system if needed. My other suggestion would be to clear browser cash and still try https://192.168.1.1:8443. There is a setting in router to accept HTTP plus HTTPS, HTTP only or HTTPS only under administration, system. If that setting is set to HTTPS only, for some strange reason when you use local IP of your router and try to login, it redirects to the AI cloud page on the web not the routers login page. When I use https and also specify port number at the end, it would get me to a correct login page of the router. It also seems like that port for HTTPS could be changed from 8443 to something custom, I would assume you didn’t change it to 443 or anything like that. Basically, running out of suggestions here: d I am sure you did all basic ping and finding out for sure correct IP of your router. Sometimes your other device on the network can serve as DHCP server or has been configured that way and not documented. If you got hold of tech support, maybe they would be able to hack-in. Hi, Are you or can you try connecting using the internal IP address of the Asus router? Thanks.
