Hello, This one is for PC builders. I've been gathering parts mostly in the last month for a new PC. Currently I have a Gigabyte 970 USB 3 motherboard, 32 GB of ddr3 1866 ram, and an 8 core processor that part alone I know takes 125W of power. Ok, the power supply will need to be an ATX12V supply I've found two on newegg I like one for 500W the other for 530W both around the same price. My problem is determining my current power usage needs, currently I'm guessing, and future needs. This box will eventually have all six SATA3 ports used, one CD/DVD burner, one SSD drive, and four 7200 RPM SATA3 drives 1 TB or greater. Opinions on power? Hi Dave, I wouldn't worry too much about the SLI/Crossfire. You can always get a high-performance video card. As far as a power supply, I would go with at least 700W or 750W. I always go bigger because I am planning for future use. It looks to me with that much hardware going you will also need a couple of fans. Realisticly, you'd probably actually be ok with the 5xx ones that you suggested, the only reason you might want to go higher is to find a better quality unit. You could, for example, probably get away with any old 400W PSU, although most of the low wattage PSU's that are produced today are, to use a technical term, shit, so you'll want to stay away from them - it just doesn't make sense to compromise on the PSU when you have some very expensive components. There are plenty of power supply calculators on the net try looking those up. You don't say what board and chip you're running. You can use one of the online calculators that should be close enough or add up the watts for all your components. 530 Watts should be enough for that configuration though. Regards, Kerry. Hi, I haven't used it, but this http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp appears to be a fairly good PSU calculator - buy a higher power one than it suggests though. I've used coolermaster, anteke, ocz, corsair and be quiet (Sorry for spellings) for PSU's and my favourite is Be quiet based on the low noise output. The ones you want to avoid are the no name ones; ones that come with cases and or ones that are worringly cheap are usually loud & low quality. Once you've experienced a few different PSU's in person, you'll be able to tell if ones good or not by how heavy it is; the lighter the weight the lower the quality. Cheers, Ben. This one is for PC builders. I've been gathering parts mostly in the last month for a new PC. Currently I have a Gigabyte 970 USB 3 motherboard, 32 GB of ddr3 1866 ram, and an 8 core processor that part alone I know takes 125W of power.
Ok, the power supply will need to be an ATX12V supply I've found two on newegg I like one for 500W the other for 530W both around the same price. My problem is determining my current power usage needs, currently I'm guessing, and future needs. This box will eventually have all six SATA3 ports used, one CD/DVD burner, one SSD drive, and four 7200 RPM SATA3 drives 1 TB or greater.
Opinions on power? Also, SLI and Crossfire ready do I need to worry about those?

Hello, Ok, going for total expandability here, planning on maxing this system out in terms of drives and power needs. I've used coolermaster, anteke, ocz, corsair and be quiet (Sorry for spellings) for PSU's and my favourite is Be quiet based on the low noise output.
The ones you want to avoid are the no name ones; ones that come with cases and or ones that are worringly cheap are usually loud & low quality. Once you've experienced a few different PSU's in person, you'll be able to tell if ones good or not by how heavy it is; the lighter the weight the lower the quality.

You could, for example, probably get away with any old 400W PSU, although most of the low wattage PSU's that are produced today are, to use a technical term, shit, so you'll want to stay away from them - it just doesn't make sense to compromise on the PSU when you have some very expensive components.
The case will probably have intake & exhaust which should be enough, although you might want to replace them anyway if you're concerned about the noise of the system.
