MMC: random crashes mostly under win 10 and server 2016 and 2019
Hi all, I also have random crashes with the MMC. Often with large views the mmc and/or the screenreader crashes. As far as i remember this should have been fixed a few months ago? I am using NVDA so i don't know if that also happens with JAWS. Greetings, Simon
Hi Simon: Are there any specific MMC snap-ins you're working with that are crashing? Is it happening at any specific point in the process or is it completely random? Also I know you said you haven't tried with JAWS, have you tried with Narrator? Thanks. Hi Ryan, Thanks for the reply. Crashes occur over here with the event viewer and wsus snap in. It seems to be random though it seems to be mostly with many items in the list view of the event viewer or in the update display with many updates on wsus. So mostly the larger update views in wsus which contain all updates or the large system event log or application event log. I open for example the event log and go to system. then i open a item in there and read the data. then i close that item. then the event log freezes when it should come back to the events list. The same is with NVDA and Narrator. Tested at home under win 10 home build 18363.693 and NVDA 2019.3 and NVDA Alpha 19745. At work its win 10 enterprise, win server 2016 and 2019 with more or less current updates. Greetings, Simon Am 07.03.2020 um 05:15 schrieb Ryan Shugart:

Hi All, I too experience the same here with the large records in MMC's. I've also noticed this similar behavior with large table sets in browser sessions with all screen readers. Hi, I also can confirm with smaller amounts of data in the event viewer. just saw that this also happens that way. active directory views in mmc doesn't have that problem. Greetings, Simon Am 07.03.2020 um 22:21 schrieb Billy Irwin:

Hi: I actually know exactly what you're talking about, I've had this problem with the Windows Event Viewer in particular since the Windows Vista days. I've gotten very used to seeing MMC crash and just restarting it, and I've seen this with a variety of screen readers. I've heard nonscreen reader users complain about this kind of thing too, so I'm not sure this is related to any assistive technology and is just MMC being weird. I realize this may not help much, but for what its worth, Microsoft is moving away from using MMC for administration and moving more towards people using the new Windows Admin Center<https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/cloud-platform/windows-admin-center> to admin either stand alone or groups of Windows servers. If anyone on this list has played around with WAC or uses it day to day I'd be very interested in your feedback. Thanks.
