I submitted a bug report to Freedom Scientific regarding the behaviour of jaws in a full-screen command window. The problem is that if you make a command window full screen by pressing Alt+Enter, jaws cannot read the text. AFAK, this has been the case since jaws 9. And it is a problem I've seen in jaws 11 and 12. But Freedom Scientific tech support tells me that they can't reproduce the bug. Can anyone confirm this bug? Or does jaws work in a full screen command window for you? To try to duplicate my problem, do the following: 1. Open a run dialog box by pressing Windows+r. Enter "command" into the box and press enter. 2. When the command window opens, press Alt+Enter to make the window full screen. 3. Check if jaws can read the screen by typing a command like dir or helpYour keystrokes will be echoed but, in my experience, the text displayed by these commands is not read and there is no way to get jaws to read it.
Hi John, what operating system are you running. it works fine on windows 7 64-bit. thanks rick software developer Paul Ecke Ranch mailto:rwatson@EckeRanch.com www.Ecke.com Tel. I've tried it now on Win XP with jaws 9, win XP and jaws 11, win XP and jaws 12, and Win 7 and jaws 12. All with the same effect. Are you sure you're doing this in a full screen window, not a maximized window? I know jaws works in a window that is maximized. But it has never worked, as far as I know, in a full screen command window. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Watson" <rwatson@eckeranch.com> To: "Blind sysadmins list" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Thursday, June 09, 2011 11:56 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] jaws in full screen command window?

John, I just tried your method and I had no problems. I am running the current version of Jaws. I was able to read the items in the command windo with no problem. Thanks for a useful diversion from a take home final that is due tomorrow morning. If you come up with anything else to try send it out and I'll give it a try. I thought that Jaws never worked with cmd.exe or command.exe in full screen mode. Under my Windows XP Pro SP3 Jaws 12 still doesn't work. Octavian ----- Original Message ----- From: "John G. Yeah, a lot of people are telling me that jaws never worked in a full screen command window. Almost everybody who really knows about this stuff has said that but not all. So now I'm even more confused than ever. I thought it never worked but some people, including FS tech support, insist that it does. I expected FS to tell me that it was a known bug and that it wasn't likely to get fixed any time soon. The only reason I submitted it was that NVDA does read the text in a full screen command window. So if I really need a full screen command window, like when I'm configuring a kernel via ssh, I stop jaws and run NVDA. But that's a PITA and I thought I'd see if I could coax FS into looking into it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Octavian Rasnita" <orasnita@gmail.com> To: "Blind sysadmins list" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Thursday, June 09, 2011 3:19 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] jaws in full screen command window?

Hi Guys, Do any of you have experience with Windows 7 and GPMC? I can't seem to locate a copy for my windows 7 machine I am using here at home. I am working on a large AD setup with tons of policies and need to work from home via VPS on this project. If you could provide a link to download a compatible version of GPMC for Windows 7 that would be awesome. Thanks again! Billy
Hi all. Is it not in Ultimate? If so then I guess this is a server only feature. I like to think of Server 2008 R2 as Windows 7 for servers. Thoughts? Chat soon. Chris Hallsworth Sent from Thunderbird On 10/06/2011 02:36, Billy L. Irwin wrote:
