System Center Configuration Manager admins
Hi: As I’ve mentioned in the past I’ve been working with Microsoft Accessibility and the Configuration Manager team to improve accessibility to the System Center Configuration Manager admin console, which has some major issues today. I’ve made some progress, but the story I’m getting now is that the team is being pushed on all sides, and they’re just not finding the resources to make accessibility the priority it needs to be. If there are any other blind Configuration Manager admins out there, would you mind posting a report on http://configurationmanager.uservoice.com Requesting accessibility fixes? Since I’ve done it via the product team me posting wouldn’t help, but if they can see other users out there posting and voting that would help. Thanks a lot. Ryan

You may also want to try to get in contact with Anne Taylor on the Microsoft accessibility team for any pointers she could give you for getting the issue escalated. As you may recall, Anne worked for several years leading up NFB's technology center & many tech advocacy efforts before joining Microsoft. Thanks Mika. I’ve been working with Erin Williams on the MS accessibility team, she’s one of the people who handles enterprise software and she’s had experience with the people on the SCCM team before as well. I’ve been pretty happy working with Erin and I think she knows her stuff. The problem is the Microsoft accessibility team doesn’t have the authority to mandate accessibility to the various product groups. Under the current structure its up to each product team (Windows, Office, System Center, Exchange, SQL, Etc.) on how they want to approach accessibility and what priority it is for them. I think that’s one reason we’ve gotten so many mixed messages from Microsoft in the past, one team has a different commitment/approach than the other. There is now more of a focus coming down from Microsoft to the product teams for accessibility because of section 508, etc. It is still each team’s responsibility to implement accessibility in the way they best see fit, with the accessibility team serving as a advocate and guide. I may not have all the details right but that’s my rough understanding. I think it would be nice if the accessibility team did have more power, but this is what we have to work with here and now. There is a new Enterprise Disability Answer Desk being set up specifically for the enterprise end of Microsoft, AKA server software, system center, Exchange, Office 365, Azure, etc. Its email is Edad@microsoft.com I hope that this is enlightening to some people, it was very enlightening to me to learn how this all really worked. I forwarded this thread to the lawyer for the International Association Of Visually Impaired Technologists. Maybe we can have a skype call to discuss legal options. I am thinking that at least IAVIT can send them a letter of protest or something.

Hi: As I've mentioned in the past I've been working with Microsoft Accessibility and the Configuration Manager team to improve accessibility to the System Center Configuration Manager admin console, which has some major issues today. I've made some progress, but the story I'm getting now is that the team is being pushed on all sides, and they're just not finding the resources to make accessibility the priority it needs to be. If there are any other blind Configuration Manager admins out there, would you mind posting a report on http://configurationmanager.uservoice.com Requesting accessibility fixes?
