Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Introduction
Hi and thanks for taking the time to get back to me. As far as I am aware, we are using 2012 but I will see what I can find out. I Am using JAWS17, the latest version. I Would really like to be able to take a look at the details of an asset e.g. when it last checked back with the console for updates and when it last checked for virus updates. Also the status of the virus update would be good. Is this something that you can help with? -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Ryan Shugart Sent: 27 April 2016 15:11 To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Introduction Warning: This message contains unverified links which may not be safe. The older SCCM 2007 admin console was really easy to use, but the newer consoles (2012 and 2012R2) have become much more difficult to work with. I’m guessing you’re using one of the newer ones, I manage SCCM for a world-wide company and while it is a challenge here are some basic tips. The SCCM application itself is extremely busy, both in functionality and user interface. It just does a ton of things. There are four main views, assets and compliance, application management, monitoring and administration. You can get to each with ctrl+1 through ctrl+4 and it totally changes the tree view and list view contents. Depending on the screen reader you use the list views don’t read very well, this is fixed in the latest and greatest 1602 release of SCCM, my organization is upgrading to that in May. There’s a lot of information on SCCM that’s a little much to go into in one email, I’d highly recommend taking a course or reading a book on SCCM to understand its functions and what it can do, and then just playing around with the console for a while to get a feel of what you are getting into. It is a beast, even for sighted people, and its inaccessibility doesn’t help at all, but it is doable. Hello friends,
I Am a new member to this list. We are using SCCM at work after being a Novell structured organisation for a long time. I Am trying to teach myself the SCCM admin console so that I can check machines, send virus checks and things from the console, is anyone able to comment on accessability of these functions? I Have tried the console but it seems very complicated initialy but to be fair, all new things do really when you are using a screen reader.
MNany thanks in anticipation for any help.

Steven, are you using the System Center Endpoint Protection with SCCM? We don’t use that part of SCCM so I’m not sure exactly how to help you, however, if all you are looking for is status information one of the web reports may be better for you. You’d have to ask a coworker how that’s set up as you can get to them from outside the console completely if the reporting point is set up properly. I know that there are some SCEP reports, but, again as we don’t use that I don’t know if one would help you. The reporting point uses SQL Reporting Services so writing one to get you specifically what you wanted wouldn’t be that hard. So if that’s all you need then you may be OK just going that route. If, on the other hand, you want to learn to use SCCM to its full potential, pushing software, enforcing compliance, using OSD to image new machines, managing software updates for workstations and servers etc. you’re going to have to just get use to the console in its full glory. Unfortunately no way around that.
