Changing display name in Outlook/Windows Mail
I have a friend who is a Windows user. I do Linux support for a living and don't even have a Windows machine. The problem is that her email display name is "Admin Server". Obviously, that is not her name. I created a Windows VM and tried to figure out how to change the display name on an Outlook or Office365 mail account and it's not obvious. Googling hasn't helped. I need to learn how to do this so I can walk her through it while I am on my Windows virtual machine. Any ideas? -- ### John G. Heim, 608-263-4189, jheim@math.wisc.edu
Hi. If its connecting to an Exchange account then that is set by the sysadmin, otherwise its somewhere in the account options but I don't even connect to anything else other than Exchange accounts these days in Outlook so not sure where it is. A Thanks. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: John G. Hi: Sorry for replying rather late to this. If you are using Office 365/Exchange Online, then the display name could be set in one of several different places, it all depends on whether your tenant is using cloud native identities, AKA all your accounts are created and stored solely in the cloud, or whether you are syncing to an onprem active directory environment. Many larger organizations have an onprem active directory that syncs up to Office 365, and if so then display name needs to be set there and it will sync up to the cloud account. If your environment is cloud native, then your global admin needs to log into http://admin.microsoft.com and they can change it there. The user may also be able to change it themselves at http://portal.office.com, this depends entirely on the permissions set by your administrator. Hope this helps. Hello John, I'm behind in my email reading so sorry if you've already gotten a response. If your customer is using Office 365 and Outlook available through this software, perhaps changing the username for Microsoft Office might help. It can be found by going to File/Options/General. Do not press enter on general, press the tab key several times, I think it's six times, until you hear "Personalize Your Copy of Microsoft Office." You should be in an edit box where a username appears. Mine has my name in it, so you can remove it and enter the customer's name. I use Office 365 at work and my name is also in that field. I don't know if Outlook's display name is pulled from this field, but it may be worth a shot. 😊 Hope this helps. Respectfully, Beth -----Original Message----- From: John G.
