Hi, The accessibility status hasn't changed since you last asked about it on 22/05/2014 <smile>. This is actually a blessing in disguise though as Spinrite is a terrible program for data recovery. Instead, I'd suggest booting into your favorite *nix distro and running ddrescue (which probably won't be installed by default) on the drive. Make sure you connect the source & destination drives directly to SATA instead of USB. Also make sure that the machine is one that you can leave on for a number of days if required, depending on the condition of the drive. Good luck. Ben. I've got a hard drive that I know has issues windows disk check tells me so and from what it's been putting me through I have no doubt. I'm wanting to use spinrite on it. I am wondering if anyone has figured out how to make spinrite talk? I know the native interface does not.

Hi, I found this in my tech docs. I can't remember who wrote it for me but you may find it useful. Once you have Spinrite on a CD you can do the following: 1 Boot from CD. 2 Press any key twice. 3 Then press number 2 on the keyboard. 4 Press number 1 to select drive partition. 5 Press SPACEBAR to select all drive partitions and press ENTER. 6 Then press ENTER once more to begin to scan. This will do a level 2 scan on the drive (data recovery). Remember nothing is absolute and depending on how bad the drive is this may take a while. It will finish when it is done type of thing. This utility is designed also for more regular maintenance which is generally recommended from time to time.
