The small number of people need to access quickbooks on this same system. They are potentially at different locations using XP to log in remotely with remote desktop? Stage 2 will be putting local systems at the second location. Will this even work? At both locations they have Comcast business cable static IP optional with the fastest speed of 8/1mbps. Should we use a second server with replication or should they just log in to the remote with VPN? What are ideas? /David C:Vista! C:Vista run? C:Vista crawl!!!
Hi, In my experience VPN kills apps such as Quickbooks and Sage when they are accessing the files direct from the server. I would look at something like Small Business Server 2003 which has support for remote web workplace, which allows remote users to connect to XP desktops in the office for such activity using a website address. If you have already purchased Windows Server 2003 standard, you can run this as a terminal server, which will work effectively over the lan-lan VPN link across the two sites. What makes TS a killer inho is the user CALs.
