Hello, Does anyone have Kali linux post-install speech accessible? I can get it installed in to a vm with speech but then on reboot I loose speech, I also do not have network ssh ability. Thanks. Dave.
Hi Dave. I've not used it for a little while but I don't have speach working in Kali 3 either. Kali 2 is working OK. However, I can SSh into Kali3 from my windows host. For SSH starting at boot try: sudo systemctl enable ssh.service Make sure you can ping your vm and the usual stuff. I use a bridged port in VMware so Kali and other VMs have their own IP on the LAN. I've never heard of this particular Linux distribution. In general, you're more likely to achieve accessible results if you use a distribution for which accessibility support is actively maintained, such as Debian or Arch. GRML used to be actively maintained too, but I haven't run it recently. There are also some custom distributions specifically designed to be screen reader accessible, with built-in and enabled screen readers (e.g., Speakup, Orca and BRLTTY). Using other distributions is fine, of course, but you're more likely to shoulder the responsibility of fixing any issues in the packaging or default installation of accessibility-related tools. The accessibility of Ubuntu used to be actively supported, but Canonical appear to have dismissed the only developer who understood screen readers and who was active in this area. Hi, The thing is with that distro is that it is the main distro for security people to use, and if you want to take up a career in pen testing or technical security testing you need to have experience with that distro. It isn't like that distro is the only way of getting things done, as the tools are readily available, but it really helps on the CV and in interview if you can say you have experience of that distro. I used to get away with saying I can use the tools via sSH, but these days it doesn't cut it as much as a lot of the tooling is about case management and building up a security standpoint using the various tools using the GUI tools provided. Just a quick update. I've upgraded Kali to the latest version. This is a VM on VMWare Workstation 12 Pro. There is still no speach. Text mode might work but I'd rather use Windows and ssh in instead. Even with speach working in graphical mode, there is still the issue of many of the tools not being accessible with orca. E.g. Berp Suite. There are a couple of posts on the Kali forums about the lack of speach. No one's answered. pretty poor really since being based of Debian, this should work. I've not got the time or inclination to route through the logs and try to work out what's going on ATM. Regards Chris Turner On 30/05/2018 16:06, Jackie McBride wrote:

I can't remember how I got Orca running in Kali 2. The usual way I think, alt, super AKA windows key, and S.
There was a problem with the sound being muted. Though this may have been on Kali 1. Again, it was a while ago.

Now this has come up, I'm just upgrading kali 3. We'll see if speach works then.

Hi Dave.
I've not used it for a little while but I don't have speach working in Kali 3 either. Kali 2 is working OK. However, I can SSh into Kali3 from my windows host.
For SSH starting at boot try:
sudo systemctl enable ssh.service
Make sure you can ping your vm and the usual stuff. I use a bridged port in VMware so Kali and other VMs have their own IP on the LAN.
Regards

Hello,
Does anyone have Kali linux post-install speech accessible? I can get it installed in to a vm with speech but then on reboot I loose speech, I also do not have network ssh ability.
Thanks. Dave.
