NVDA as part of Windows unattended setup?
Hello, This might be a little off topic, but I was wondering if it was possible to install NVDA as part of a Windows unattended install? Ideally I'd like to have the desktop come up since I set my unattends to automatically log in at least once, and then either put in an external USB sound card or the local driver works. I'd like to pull up run and launch NVDA or do it with the keyboard shortcut, and have speech. Also, would like to get the sound volume jacked all the way up. Can any of this be done in an unattended install? Thanks. Dave.
Hi, I know it can but not how. You can customise the installs to have passes to install any application automatically for you. I'd also be interested in solutions or a howTo on this. I have been looking into this for a while as well. I asked about it on the nvda list maybe 6 months ago. They said the developers were in the process of re-writing the installer so I should wait until that is done before trying. But I never did get back to it. I haven't actually tried it but apparently there are several ways to install apps during an unattended install. You can configure it in your autounattend.xml or you can put commands into a file called setupcomplete.cmd. The documentation for the setupcomplete.cmd approach is here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766314(v=ws.10).aspx An example of running a command via your autounattend.xml is here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/158450-installing-applications-with-unattend xml/ So I think the key is to figure out how to install nvda via a command line. Just now, I tried opening a command window and typing " nvda_2012.2.1.exe -ms" and that appeared to kind of work. I took a wag at the -ms options because that appears to be what you pass to firefox to do an unattended install. But I don't know if those are the right parameters for nvda. I kinda doubt it. I don't have the hardware to work on this right now. I was working this problem on a linux box with VMWare workstation. A Win7 install took about 15 minutes. That was very nice for testing purposes. I am going to order parts for a new PC but it will be weeks/months before I can get back at this. If you figure anything out in the mean time, let me know. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Barry Toner Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2012 9:45 AM To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] NVDA as part of Windows unattended setup? Hi, Off the top of my head (Because I don't have time to double check the exact steps), research the $oem$ folder and the folders that you can put inside them. Essentially, you could make setup copy NVDA to the root of the installation drive or anyware else you wanted and have it start the first time, or every time you log in. Cheers, Ben. Thanks to everyone for your responses. While right now I am doing an xp install, I want this to work with 7 as well.
Thanks. Dave.

Hi,
Off the top of my head (Because I don't have time to double check the exact steps), research the $oem$ folder and the folders that you can put inside them. Essentially, you could make setup copy NVDA to the root of the installation drive or anyware else you wanted and have it start the first time, or every time you log in.
Cheers, Ben.

Hi,
I know it can but not how. You can customise the installs to have passes to install any application automatically for you.
I'd also be interested in solutions or a howTo on this.

Hello,
This might be a little off topic, but I was wondering if it was possible to install NVDA as part of a Windows unattended install? Ideally I'd like to have the desktop come up since I set my unattends to automatically log in at least once, and then either put in an external USB sound card or the local driver works. I'd like to pull up run and launch NVDA or do it with the keyboard shortcut, and have speech. Also, would like to get the sound volume jacked all the way up.
Can any of this be done in an unattended install?
Thanks. Dave.
