Hi, Not sure if this is the best place to ask this but it's the only list I'm subscribed to. I'm supposed to be working with a lot of cisco equipment at the minute, through SSH and terminal sessions. I'm using JFW since it was bought for me, all of our cisco equipment requires you to be on a remote server to configgure it and I can't use NVDA remote anyway because of firewalls, ETC. I've got JFW working fine remotely, but either on the local JAWS or remote JAWS I can't get it to read terminals. I'm using both PUTTY and tera term. It reads CMD fine just not terminals. Are there any special settings ETC I need to change? Cheers for any help. Hi, PuTTY should be working for you but you need to use the JAWS cursor to read out the text. I had this exact setup with RDP for a while and it worked ok. This has been a real thorn in our collective sides for a couple decades now. Back in DOS days, Vocal-Eyes was the best at this task, even when using that old thing, what was it called? Nethook, something like that. It read anything you could Telnet or ssh into flawlessly. I can't believe this has not been remedied in twenty years plus, since there are so many of us, admins and non-, who need to log in to services that use the terminal model. Hello, You can download Jaws scripts for Putty from following link: https://github.com/munawarb/JAWS-PuTTY-Scripts Regards. 2017-10-14 17:27 GMT+03:00, Steve Matzura <sm@noisynotes.com>:
This has been a real thorn in our collective sides for a couple decades now. Back in DOS days, Vocal-Eyes was the best at this task, even when using that old thing, what was it called? Nethook, something like that. It read anything you could Telnet or ssh into flawlessly. I can't believe this has not been remedied in twenty years plus, since there are so many of us, admins and non-, who need to log in to services that use the terminal model.

Cheers, it was working with the JAWS curser but I was sure there was a way to get the terminal to read properly like it does with NVDA. Kind regards, Kieran.

Hi,
PuTTY should be working for you but you need to use the JAWS cursor to read out the text.
I had this exact setup with RDP for a while and it worked ok.

Install secure CRT on the far end and add the JFW script, I think it’s Chris Nestrid (I’m sure I’m spelling his name wrong I’m sorry) but if memory serves he came up with a very simple but nice script to have the responses in ssh read for you. The other advantage of Secure CRT is that you can use it as a serial terminal (as you can putty) but get that output read directly. You can also disable this feature with the script on the fly and reenable so for example is long streams of data are flowing by you don’t care about you can skip the reading and have a hot key to restart again when you’re ready. Other operating systems are also good for ssh but I’m not sure about this jump box you’re working with and if that’s the only means to gain access. Where I work we have a VPN we can join and then access everything directly. As a side note, I’m a network engineer of about 27 years now and have a good Cisco background as well as worked for Juniper directly and also have very strong Palo Alto, F5 and Tallari skills to name a few. I you have any questions at all about networking or Cisco specifically please don’t hesitate to ask, I’m happy to help and there are also several other active very skilled network engineers on this list who have helped me in the past. Ask away and we’ll be glad to help if we can.
