Microsoft exams with screen reader - actually scheduling the test
Hi. I have now finally got permissions from Pearson Vue to take Microsoft exams with a screen reader. Has anyone else got this before and managed to successfully schedule a test? I tried to do this but when I tried to take the test the invigilator didn't have anything about me using a screen reader even though the accommodation was on my account. He believed I may need to go through a separate schedule process. I asked the guys last week about this but haven't heard anything back and need to take some exams to get myself on a client project. Thanks. Andrew.
Hello, I have just received permission to take Comptia tests with a reader/scribe also. This will be my first time taking a test in this manner. Good Luck to both of us. Hi. I gave up with the reader/scribe option a year or so ago as the test centre has to be set up to take reader/scribe tests in a separate room. In most cases this means the test centre has to shut down while I am taking the test. Most recently I had this problem at Firebrand which is a provider I used a lot in the past. Also my belief is now that Pearson have to provide the scribes for you rather than before I could find someone to help me with this. This is why I am going with the screen reader approach. Still waiting to hear back on how I can register for the exam with the screen reader. Thanks. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: gbobo@woh.rr.com <gbobo@woh.rr.com> Sent: 17 October 2022 02:24 To: 'Mailing list for blind system administrators' <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: Microsoft exams with screen reader - actually scheduling the test Hello, I have just received permission to take Comptia tests with a reader/scribe also. Andrew, I requested the screen reader but I was told the test was incompatible and the test was not accessible which I thought was odd. I was forced to use a reader/scribe. All the practice exams for what I am taking work with JAWS with minor difficulty. The testing center I will be going to is a career technical center (CTC) with multiple testing rooms so it does not have to close . I will "burn" them on the survey and send a letter to my local congressman who supports the base I work at. Hi. Even though the practice exams work with a screen reader they will only let you use a screen reader for exams they have on their list as being available to use with a screen reader. That means that new exams that haven't been validated may have to go through a reader/scribe. Glad you managed to find a test centre available to accommodate you, hopefully I can find one in the UK. Hi, That's disappointing, I've just been on the azure security fundamentals sc900 course, and have the chance to take the exam for free, I thought it looked easy as all the practices work with JAWS. I've also got the opportunity to take the ethical hacking exam from the EC council, they are saying there shouldn't be any issues but I've heard that one before which is why I'm skeptical. Thanks, Kieran. -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Hodgson <andrew@hodgson.io> Sent: 17 October 2022 11:44 To: Mailing list for blind system administrators <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: Microsoft exams with screen reader - actually scheduling the test CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organisation. Hi. So you are in the same boat as me. Go to the Microsoft exam site and register on there as requiring special accommodations, you need to submit your registered blind status but there is an option to take the test with a screen reader and also to add extra time. Once done this you should get approval within a few weeks. This is the stage I am at now, we then need to schedule the exam with the accommodations in place, I will let you know how to do this once I get something back from Pearson. Haven't tried anything from EC council you need to specifically ask them how someone with a screen reader would take the test with a proctored invigilated exam environment. A quick answer means they haven't thought about it. If they use Pearson as their exam provider they have to go through a specific process to get the exams signed off as being usable with a screen reader. Thanks.
