How do you mean built?
I've ordered them on line and built in my features.;) and also done some
things like swapping drives and memory but never built one with a pile of
parts.

Right, I mean build like assemble it from a pile of parts.
I have heard of sighted people doing that. But I don't know if it would be
possible for a blind guy. I want to build a notebook w/o a screen but with
an integrated GPS system of some type.

Ok, well Asus are the people you want to talk to. They make these whitebook
deals that have a very similar metal case to the Macbooks and you can add
what ever parts you want.
I've changed the drives in them and my feeling was if you could use a screw
driver you were in. Don't know about starting with out sited help but once
you've done it I think you could repeat as needed unassisted. I have no
problem taking apart and making major changes to tower type PC cases and
hardware once I get the run threw and my feeling was the Asus whitebooks
were much more simple. I had a lot of practice with working with my hands
that way as my father used to have me rebuild engines as a kid and blindness
wasn't an excuse.;) If you have a similar history something like this
should be trivial.

Hi, I did this once using a set of parts from a white box manufacturer. I did get some sighted assistance to ensure I got the CPU and a couple of other parts fitted correctly, and the machine is still working now. Having said that, I dread your other messages and not sure I could have got rid of the screen without some more in-depth electronics working, as the hinges and everything were already on the case. The fun part was fitting various expansion cards to the system, I got a wifi and Bluetooth mini PCI card for the unit, and you could get various different aerials that went in several places inside the machine. Thanks. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of John G.
