Hello, Is anyone using vmware workstation 6.5 with jfw? I was running vmware server on an xp pro machine with vm's inside that, and jfw scripts on the host, now i'm having to switch to workstation 6.5. My first question is are any scripts or other configuration files needed for workstation? Second issue, when i installed a vm on first boot of the vm after the operating system was installed workstation went right in to the vm, i didn't have to hit control g or anything. This was not wanted and getting out with control+alt didn't work, mouse moving trial and error finally got me out. I do have additional questions about specific vm's, but they can wait until i can sort out the basics, any help appreciated. Thanks. Dave.
I use vmware workstation 6.5 for linux and have not noticed the problem you
mention below. I'm guessing you made sure the latest version of vmware
tools has been installed in the virtual machine, right?
One thing though, I was running server2 for linux and jaws 9 didn't work. It
couldn't install the video intercept manager so the jaws cursor didn't work.
I upgraded to vmware workstation and jaws 10 and then it worked. But I
didn't know if it was the upgrade to workstation or jaws 10 that fixed the
problem. But I am guessing you're already using jaws 10.
So I don't have any advice to help you unless you're not running jaws 10 or
if you have not updated vmware tools on the vm (which you probably have
already done).

You really shouldn't need any scripts for it, just memorize the more useful keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+b powers on your VM, ctrl+e powers it off, ctrl+r resets it, etc.) and you should be fine there. There's some status info that you'll need to use your review commands to get but that's not a big deal. I've never seen Workstation grab input to a VM without using ctrl+g and I've been using it for over a year. I'd say that depending on the machine you were using, things might have been sluggish, but in my experience that's never happened. Ctrl+alt has always worked, in fact, the docs say that without vmware tools, that's the only way to release a VM. If you're using the easy install feature to install your operating systems, its best to give easy install time to do its thing. I'd say 30 minutes for Vista or 2008, an hour to 90 minutes for XP and 2003, depending on your physical hardware. Other than that, I've been nothing but happy with Workstation, and as I said its one of the products I use the most day to day.
