Guys, As the main reason for keeping this server around has now gone as the client has moved elsewhere, I will look to move this list elsewhere and shut down lists.hodgsonfamily.org. I am probably going to choose Google Groups unless there is a reason anyone hates them with a passion. Thanks. Andrew.

No objections from my point of view. It's interesting how we almost go on a bit of an infrastructure journey as we age / our careers progress isn't it. In 2010 I was hosting my own mail server and lots of other things with many always on desktops acting as servers. Fast forward to 2020 and I've outsourced large amounts of the services that I was previously running, massively downgraded the spec on my VPS and reduced all of the local infrastructure down to one low spec second hand desktop with everything Dockerized on top of Alpine. I hope I'll always have some desire to do a bit of it myself though. On 8/2/20, Andrew Hodgson <andrew@hodgson.io> wrote:

hi there, would you let us know when the migration is complete? also will our details be transferd over or will we have to subscribe to the google group? thanks, Majid Hussain On 02/08/2020, Ben Mustill-Rose <ben@benmr.com> wrote:

Hi, The story behind this server was it was running the BCAB list which made it worthwhile to keep it running, I was effectively providing a donation. However they decided to go with another provider so will be moving away from this server, which means all the box is doing now is hosting a couple of lists which isn't worth the money which is why I want it gone. If I had other lists to host I would still be inclined to keep it, the box was recently revamped a few months ago to take more lists on Mailman3 as well. Hi, I'm not sure I understand what advantages there are to someone running a physical host to host such a list. Why wouldn't you just use a cloud list provider these days. I've had good experience with groups.io which will even automate the migration for you for lists coming from certain sources. You'd need to check groups.io out as it was a couple of years ago I migrated a list on to there. It was very easy to do though. I also know its administration is accessible Cheers, Phil. -----Original Message----- From: Can Kırca <cankirca@gmail.com> Sent: 02 August 2020 15:26 To: Mailing list for blind system administrators <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: Moving the list Hello, Groups.io better than Google Groups, also, as a owner of hosting company, I can host the list if need. HI Andrew. No problem here. I'm on another VI list hosted with groups.io. I assume the interface is accessible as the admin is a blind guy. BTW, will we need to resubscribe? Or alternatively, please take this message as permission to transfer my email address subscription. (Reminds me I should go back on the BCAB email list at some point.) Cheers. Oh, if the admin at groups.io is a blind guy, could you ask him to throw around some html headers? Last time I went there, it was all just a long list of links. it would be nice to jump to what matters a bit more efficiently. Fernando On 8/3/20 8:58 AM, Chris Turner via Blind-sysadmins wrote:

Guys, Just an update on this. I need to move a couple of lists so having just this list moved to a new host provided by someone else isn't an option. I have looked at Google Groups and a couple of others but they don't support transferring archives. I am now in discussion with groups.io to work out if this is possible, their support turnaround is very slow. Andrew.

I have several servers that I use for production that run mail man. If you would like to migrate I don’t mind hosting it. Thanks, Billy Sent from my iPhone

Hi, We're on Mailman3 here so I can't just give you the Pickle files, its all in Postgres now. I can dump archives though or can help set up a Mailman3 instance. Just read the other message, I would look to transfer people and communicate when the new group is set up.
