Folks, What are you either in work or at home imaging your win 7 boxes with? That you can restore, I know I know, that's always the killer, without sighted help. I was using True Image for XP back when, but have found it very crashy under Win 7 and accessibility appears to be broke in it's latest version. The Windows 7 backup tool, despite having an Imager scares me. I'm not sure if it's a true sys image, and also it's throwing all sorts of annoying errors up here when I point it to a backup drive I have in a USB hub. So I'm looking a backup tool that will do Images, and if I have access to the OS will let me log in, and run the backup, it reboots and comes back up after a period with a re-imaged screen. True Image would do this and do it very nicely. Thanks, Barry. Hi, Image backups in Win7 actually work ok, I used to back up to a NAS device. Since getting a Windows Home Server box I am using the image backups on that, they take a lot less time to create, and can be restored fairly easily. Only issue is the restore interface uses the WinPE. I am trying to back up to a freecom tough drive (120GB external 2.5") "So I tried two reformats of my drive - no joy - then I went to disk manager and deleted the entire drive/partition and made a new one. Wow George, I'll enable Compression on the drive. Not sure if I want to wack the partition just yet. Since getting a Windows Home Server box I am using the image backups on that, they take a lot less time to create, and can be restored fairly easily. Only issue is the restore interface uses the WinPE. Andrew. -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Barry Toner Sent: 05 May 2010 10:08 To: 'Blind sysadmins list' Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Imaging Windows 7 Folks, What are you either in work or at home imaging your win 7 boxes with? I image Windows 7 using its own image backup tool with no problems. My images go to a separate partition on my 320GB portable hard drive. I'm still not getting any luck in Imaging lol I've also seen Volume Shadow BS about Restores. Still begging True image for my money back as their software is unusable with a Screen Reader. I was sus when the Splash installer wouldn't' read apart from Title bar. However, I extracted the exe by changing the exstention to zip, then finding the MSI and the Installshield popped up. The front page of the app will read with Win Eyes mouse Keys but when you click on Backup, Home etc we're back to Title bar only. I've also tried Macrium's Reflect today which is also unusable with a Screen reader IMHO. Very nervous with this machine not backed up. I back Outlook and important stuff to external storage and/or the cloud on a schedule but it would be sweet to have an Image again just cause I don't' have to write an unattended with apps to restore. You've got a point there. I did restore it once, but that was just to see if it really works. I did it blindly and somehow got it to do the recovery. It can be done with the keyboard; you just need to memorize the key presses. The recovery went very well and it does what it advertised basically. Has anyone looked at the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit or at the OSD feature in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007? Through these you can supposedly achieve either lite touch or zero touch Windows 7 installs, either from scratch or from immages. I've seen OSD work in a very controlled lab setting, but not in production. However, I read posts on the SCCM listservs all the time that this is very difficult to set up, but once its working in your environment its really sweet.
