remote desktop to a machine without jfw on it
Hello, Those of you that use remote desktop, have you ever encountered an issue, where your on a host that does have jfw, but a sighted machine has an issue, and they don't have jfw on it? In that case, how do you resolve the issue? Thanks. Dave. David Mehler (MCP,Network+,A+) dave.mehler@gmail.com
I'd use the standard windows Narator. With the option selected to bring remote sound to this computer you'll hear the speech from that machine. but I have to admit, I rather install JFW onto the other machine remotely if it's a problem that's going to take some time to resolve. I wonder if you could use system access to go instead of narrator on these machines? It sounds cheaper than buying a remote license for JFW, but I'm not sure that you could do it on those virtual systems some hosting companies offer, making them almost useless if you can't see to get in. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Darragh.OHeiligh@Oireachtas.ie> To: <dave.mehler@gmail.com>; "Blind sysadmins list" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Cc: <blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org>; "'Blind sysadmins list'" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Wednesday, February 04, 2009 6:50 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] remote desktop to a machine without jfw on it I'd use the standard windows Narator. Hay all, Using Backup exec 11D mainly. It connects to SQL 2003 databases. Any idea how I'd manually access the data in these databases? I would like to use a windows script that would connect to the local database so I could pass it a barcode and it would pull the date that that specific tape was used on. I'm reasonably ok with SQL commands and I don't mind scripting but I'm not sure exactly what the database is called or how to log into it. i.e, what account is used. Thanks Darragh

Hi, The default install of BE installs a SQL Express instance and uses Windows Authenticationn with a database called BEDB. If you had an earlier BackupExec then it may use the MSDE database which I believe installed to a named SQL instance. SQL Express doesn't allow remote connections by default, but you can play around with the settings on the server to allow these. Thanks.
