Hello, I'd like to take one of AWS certificates with Pearson VUE as provider. As a blind person I need some accomodations and I'm wondering if you have any experience with that. I read some information about what Pearson can provide and I'm going to contact them soon. I'm thinking about the following topics: I'd like to take this test online so I need to use NVDA with headphones. Is it allowed given that they run checks on my computer before exam to look for any unauthorized software. I know that they have their own browser to run those tests and I'd like to know if it's accessible for screen readers and whether I could test it before. I'm from Poland and I have documents confirming my disability in polish so do I need to translate them and provide to Pearson to prove that I'm blind. Lastly how this proctoring works? I know that they assign someone to watch me during the exam but are they aware that I'm using accomodations like headphones and screen reader? If you have any knowledge about above topics or any other suggestion please share. Best regards Jakub
Greetings, I am going through WGU which uses Pearson for a lot of their exams. I know that the ComptTIA courses are not currently fully accessible at this time. In fact the only option I have been given as of last week is to have a person of my choosing do the reading. There is forms that have to be filled out by this person as well Guide Lines are very strict. So far, it appears that using headphones isn’t allowed. The proctor has to be able to hear everything going on in the environment. When you apply for accommodations, it can take up to 10 business days to hear back. Once they approve you for accommodations, they usually respond reasonably fast. If you haven't already, I recommend looking at their accommodations page. If you cant find it, let me know and I will pass it along. I hope this helps. Kindest Regards, Billy L. I took two certifications within the past year, including one related to Amazon. Here's what I remember: You'll use Pearson Vue's website to request accommodations, this will send you to the Amazon specific website to select the exam, then you'll call Pearson Vue accommodations team to schedule the time. I requested screen reader (JAWS), headphones, Braille display. They had to manually approve, this eventually got done, they wanted to make sure the headphones were wired and they were so this wasn't an issue. Be sure to request "modified check-in", this will bypass the need for you to take a phone camera picture of your ID. This should happen automatically as a blind applicant. In both cases I was transferred to someone at the beginning of the exam, they were concerned at being able to see headphones via the camera, then they looked at the accommodations list and there were no issues. The browser was accessible, no issues with answering exam questions. I did not need to chat with the exam proctor. Overall interacting with Pearson for accommodations was a lengthy but not terribly memorable experience. Good luck! Hi. Each certification provider like AWS or Microsoft is different and I can only talk about Microsoft. I would like to do some AWS certs myself so would be interested to hear what others have found out. You need to go through the accommodations process to get your exam booked in with screenreader support. The accommodations I needed were the use of a screen reader (apparently only JFW is supported but would like to know if that is still the case), modified checkin which doesn't require showing ID to the proctor, and extra time. Booking is hard as you need to do it through the accommodations service which doesn't work with my employer's way of booking these exams. Let us know how you get on, Thanks. I tried taking 2 exams with them back in 2020 and at that time they did not offer a screen reader. Has that changed? I had to have a person read the test which was very difficult. I'm also not sure how this would work with questions that require the use of diagrams, as I remember there were a lot like that. Hi. I'm shortly due to take Comptia Security Plus with Pearson Vue online in early Jan. I meant to do this a while ago but a few things got in the way. Anyway, I've been granted double time, use of jaws on my home desktop. You need to have a web cam and stay in view also your system must pass a configuration test. If you have things like dropbox running, this will fail the test. Cheers. Chris. On 12/12/25 16:53, Mike Fulton via Blind-sysadmins wrote:
