Windows lost password
Team, Is there an accessible tool to reset or break or change a windows 7 or windows 10 password that has been lost for a specific user?
Linux live disk if you're comfortable with it. It can be dangerous.

Running a live disk, you can edit the password file that is stored within
windows system files. I don't remember the exact path. Google it. It is also
dangerous because you are accessing systems files without limitations and
you can possibly delete a system file on accident.

I haven't kept up-to-date on Windows 7, 8 and 10, but wouldn't a brute force attack on what used to be the SAM file on XP be required? Or is there a difference between a lost password and a forgotten one?

Hi,
TRK (Trinity Rescue Kit) works very well, but it's not accessible. I've had to get sighted assistance to go over menus/wizard when using it. It works with Win 7 100% and as I recall I think I might have used on windows 10 machine as well. I don't know how it performs with encrypted files or HDDs.
Kind Regards,
Anatoliy

If you're doing this in the enterprise bear in mind you might be
dealing with a drive that's been bitlockered which is going to
complicate things.
I know I bang on about hardware a lot, but one of the many reasons I
do is because stuff like this becomes incredibly easy if you know how
to use a screw driver. I think the last time I booted into any kind of
environment to remove a password was about 11 years ago; I just pull
the drive, connect it to another box and access the data like that. No
fiddling with Linux, no worrying about sound drivers, no hacks to
enable writing on NTFS etc etc.

The last time I open up a computer was eleven years ago. Regardless, you

If you are doing this in the enterprise, there are tools your organization

If you slave the drive you don't have to deal with system files at
all, unless you count the users documents, pictures, favourites etc as
system files. Granted some organizations will have out of band ways of
recovering data but how many of those are accessible?

The last time I open up a computer was eleven years ago. Regardless, you still have to dig in to the system file. Why take the extra step? Of course; If you are doing this in the enterprise, there are tools your organization can purchase. It's a boot up environment.

He was trying to reset his password. Not recover data. If you lose your
local admin password you can not recovery it. You can only reset it.
Enterprise solutions are never accessible in this case. But they follow a
consistant sequence. Once yoyu figure out the sequence, it shouldn't be too
difficult.

I know I bang on about hardware a lot, but one of the many reasons I do is because stuff like this becomes incredibly easy if you know how to use a screw driver. I think the last time I booted into any kind of environment to remove a password was about 11 years ago; I just pull the drive, connect it to another box and access the data like that. No fiddling with Linux, no worrying about sound drivers, no hacks to enable writing on NTFS etc etc.

Is there an accessible tool to reset or break or change a windows 7 or windows 10 password that has been lost for a specific user?

If you slave the drive you don't have to deal with system files at
all, unless you count the users documents, pictures, favourites etc as
system files. Granted some organizations will have out of band ways of
recovering data but how many of those are accessible?
