wrt54g2 also e1000 wireless router separate issues
Hi, Does anyone have this particular router? I've got the Linksys wrt54g2 router v1 with firmware 1.0.3. I'm having a problem that I first thought was radio interference from one of the two wireless networks near me. I'm in an apartment and the wireless laptop is approximately 40 feet away from the router and although the path is a straight line it passes through a restroom and a kitchen assuming it's like a laser and doesn't spread out. My issue is that wireless performance has been steadily worsening over the past few weeks. I didn't realize how bad until a machine out nearer the router got a file off bard in just over 5 minutes while the laptop takes over an hour assuming it doesn't time out. I'm not sure how to diagnose a channel conflict issue as I'm not sure what channels the two wireless networks near me are on. This wireless network is protected by a wpa psk. Last night I unplugged the router and left it down for about a minute before replugging it in. Performance improved noticeably, not perfect by any means but not as sluggish as it was. It's not great, but it's at least working. Has anyone seen this or has any suggestions? On a separate router issue also a linksys this one an e1000 a friend of mine got it and we cabled up a machine to it via ethernet. Wireless is working, though it's an open network, the windows 7 laptop connects automatically to it without requiring a key. Thus far working by remote I have not been able to find where on this e1000 router how to enter a WPA key and then doing that how to configure the windows 7 box to provide that key for internet access. Thanks. Dave.
For the first router, You probably have Interfearance problems. Wireless is not laser like. Wireless signals radiate like a toroid around the device. Things like walls, wiring, microwave ovens, and water will disrupt the signal greatly. Bricks do numbers on wireless signals. You may have interfearance and when you plugged / unplugged if you have auto set for channel selection it likely picked a more quiet channel. You should be able with a decent WiFi sniffer figure out all the channels and hidden / broadcast SSIDs around you. Generally channel 6 is the most busy, followed by 11 and then 1 is 3rd, I'd try channel 1 first to see if that helps. Thanks Scott On May 31, 2011, at 9:15 PM, David Mehler wrote:

Hello, Thanks a lot. Can you recommend a good WiFi sniffer? Also, I'm not sure on the channel of my router, I"ve been in to wireless setup and not finding the channel option. Thanks. Dave. On 6/1/11, Scott Granados <scott@granados-llc.net> wrote:
