Hello all: The company I work for is thinking to buy team viewer. Does anyone use team viewer with screen readers? Do all of the versions work with screen readers, or is there a specific version that does. Thanks in advance. Kathryn
All versions of Team Viewer work with screen readers, but there must be a screen reader installed on the remote system to provide speech feedback. Thanks, Bill

What about on the Mac side, is it possible to redirect voiceover through team viewer now?

I would also add that when you do this, JAWS would have to be licensed on those machines unless you intend on running in 40 minute mode which will require the typical reboot. When I do this, I use NVDA or Narrator. I know in one wway this is stating the obvious but I figured I would add it anyway. For those who have done this, how is the latency? I tried something similar with JAWS before getting the RDP add-on and while it was technically usable it was not very efficient. I would recommend RDP if using JAWS or NVDA Remote without using a public server if using NVDA. Chris On Wed, Sep 28, 2016 at 05:09:55PM +0000, Billy Irwin wrote:

Hi Chris, I too have the RDP for JAWS. It works great in a LAN setting but you are right otherwise. Over all it is workable. You just have to slow your responses to commands to ensure it took what you want. All this makes me so happy I’m an SSH guy using Unix devices or network devices on the far end.:) Seems like so much overhead.

Hi Scott, That is why my webhosting business runs on CentOS. I use MikroTik routers and switches. I was trained in Cisco as well. Jack of all trades. As time goes on I am hating a gui. Just wish VMWare Vsphere was in high contrast so I could see it better. So, what SSH client do you use the most? Hi Billy, so I tend to use the regular old ssh client (Open SSH 7.2) included with OSX on the Mac. On the windows side I use secure CRT or putty if I’m in a pinch but I try to use windows as little as possible. Professionally I’m a Network engineer so I tend to work with devices more than servers. You use ssh to remote access devices and get to the CLI. That’s the only thing I haven’t found for the Mac which is a good serial terminal. For now I run windows in a VM and use secure CRT or putty to access a USB to Serial dongle I patch through to the virtual machine. I can use that via the console port to configure devices right out of the box. We’ve got some members here and other folks I know though that are working for Microsoft improving accessibility so I am most hopeful for good things with the windows environment in the future. I like learning how other folks in the field are doing things. THere’s some real talent on this list. I know that was sort of a snarky comment about not having to use tools and complicated work arounds but I do hope this improves. Remote administration or collaboration tools that were easy to use and accessible would help a lot of folks in our game on the employment side. Lots of support teams use things like go to meeting with their customers. Juniper at least let us use team viewer and F5 was equally flexible but other companies are severely limited in their offerings. The remote desktop trend as well would benefit from work here.

Has Apple fixed how Voiceover on OSX works with programs like top which refresh the screen periodically? When I tried some time ago, speech was interrupted whenever it would refresh. On Windows I can keep the top refresh rate at a couple seconds and easily monitor CPU usage or whatever. I haven't tried this on Sierra. Maybe things have improved? Sent from my iPhone

Thanks for checking. If this is fixed, that would make it worth considering this OS. An even better example is that you couldn't really monitor the progress of a long-running task with quick updates, like a compilation using make, because voiceover would interrupt with a new line every second or so before you could finish reading the current line. Ah, so that will still happen at times with things like make or a big yum install but at least natively top didn’t break things like it used to on the update side. I still experience the make issue although I’m sure you could pause the buffer. This has gotten better but let’s say still probably not as perfect as you’d like.

Thanks for checking. If this is fixed, that would make it worth considering this OS. An even better example is that you couldn't really monitor the progress of a long-running task with quick updates, like a compilation using make, because voiceover would interrupt with a new line every second or so before you could finish reading the current line.

A poscast or document would be handy. I looked at Team Viewer, but the customer's don't like that they have to put a screen-reader on thier machines. So far I haven't worked with a VI customer who is a screen-reader user. When they are already in a flap, trying to get them to install extra stuff as well just doesn't seem to fly really. I've got NVDA remote set up on a couple of work VMs and it's an option. For Unix systems I have the option of 'tmate'. Trouble is so many of the customer's that look after *nix servers that run our products these days, don't seem to know anything about a lot of the best CLI tools out there, so it's "WebEx no2" etc etc... Hello, For those using teamviewer to remotely connect to other machines and using NVDA to do it, can you put out a podcast on the subject? This is something I'm trying to get to work for an upcoming work environment, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks. Dave.\ On 9/29/16, Scott Granados <scott@granados-llc.net> wrote:
Ah, so that will still happen at times with things like make or a big yum install but at least natively top didn’t break things like it used to on the update side. I still experience the make issue although I’m sure you could pause the buffer. This has gotten better but let’s say still probably not as perfect as you’d like.

Thanks for checking. If this is fixed, that would make it worth considering this OS. An even better example is that you couldn't really monitor the progress of a long-running task with quick updates, like a compilation using make, because voiceover would interrupt with a new line every second or so before you could finish reading the current line.

Hi Chris, I just tried this running 10.12..1 beta 2 and it works fine with out interruption. Not sure when this was fixed but seemed to work fine at least from local top.

Hi Scott, In my case, I started out doing CCNA related stuff about 15 or so years ago. I had enough sight to do things without TTS but now I am transitioning. I was hired straight out of high school as an I.T. director for a government agency. Since then I left and went back to get my associates degree in Network Systems Management. I am always torn about my interests. I like servers and networks. As you know there is a lot of folks that are nitched in their respective tracks but I think those of us that know both tend to understand how things connect and work together. Feel free to drop a message off list if you would ever like to chat.
