Hello, Is anyone running an OSX 10.6 server? If so, are you running an ssh server on it? I've been asked to set up mail services on one, but have never worked with OSX before, I know it's BSD-based at least in it's unixishness I doubt that's a word and the software such as the MTA I do know, but have never been on a box. If anyone has one I'd like to discuss getting a look around via ssh. Related, but I think I know about this question, does anyone have access to VNC? Thanks. Dave.
David: If you have no OSX server experience, I'd highly recommend letting someone who does take care of this. I've not played with the server version of OSX, but I've read quite a bit about it. While there is a Unix shell, you need to be very careful what you do in the Unix shell, as if you do something in a way OSX doesn't like it will mess up the GUI admin tools and make them unusable. I'd highly recommend either letting someone with OSX Server experience do this, or talk with someone who has experience and playing with the GUI in adition to the command line as they work together. Hi, Unfortunately the access to OSX 10.6 is a bit vague. I only used the 10.5 server, but it was fine when I was using it via the console, but the remote access to it was relying on VNC access to the OSX console, and this made it almost unusable in our situation. I don't recommend playing around with the Unix CLI - everything needs to be in the correct place in the system in order to allow the GUI to work correctly, quite a few of the configs are heavily template, and the user management is done via LDAP.
