Found WixEdit though its a little bit old. http://wixedit.sourceforge.net/ a fork has been done which had some source changes until 2015: https://github.com/sebasbaumh/WixEdit Just for the info. Visual Studio seems to have removed the installer projects since visual studio 2011 according to an article. So i might play a little bit with the old wixedit from sourceforge. I plan to do more than that; we need something for NVDA that will be reliable on servers; this might be a different issue, but it seems that NVDA crashes with the process of updating itself on Windows server 2016. Did that on my deployment server running Otter and Windows server 2016; gave the file is in use error when trying to install (never happens on Windows 10, and they come from the same code base), and then I went to find the shortcut, and it gave me an error about not being able to find the file; running the executable directly brings up a nice error sound with no visible mmessage; just a sound with nothing on the screen. In light of that, I would rather use the MSI (Or MSU (Windows update file process)) for updating servers since that's what they understand the best. Who knows ... can you use WSUS to deploy custom packages? I think it will be interesting. And for the installers, I think there is an Extension for Visual Studio that could possibly be used; there are a couple of WiX editors out there.

Oh. Thanks for that update; I need to brush up ... I want to eventually use powerShell on linux as well; will be nice when PS takes over Bash as the default shell on every Unix system, and then CMD on Windows goes completely away.

Anyone heard of a MSI package for NVDA?

I also have a second idea also to distribute nvda. I plan to write a batch script that uses robocopy to distribute a portable install of nvda and drops a preconfigured desktop icon on the public desktop.

i guess thats better than dropping the folder onto the computer using a gpo. pushing 100 mb across a network with workstations with a slow connection might not be fun while the user logs in.

It also might be a good idea to drop a message to the NVDA devs that more and more seem to want to distribute NVDA over many computers which is easier done with something automated.

we do the most stuff with teamviewer. servers are done using rdp but computers go over that.

i also haven't nvda always running on the servers and other clients. i just activate them after i have connected with teamviewer or rdp.

Interesting. We hadn't that over here yet. well we still have win 2008r2. though we will migrate to 2016 this autumn/fall.

I used this command line parameters to get NVDA on the servers. I got a few errors of sound cards and other stuff but those copies work with nvda remote and my modified start icon.

Command line parameters for installer: nvda_2017.3.exe --install-silent --minimal

I also played a little bit with some free wix editors: wixedit: looks nice but it seems to forget where its source files are. iswix: looks pretty complex and not very nice to navigate. there are some others but they seem to be outdated or just for visual studio.

I plan to do more than that; we need something for NVDA that will be reliable on servers; this might be a different issue, but it seems that NVDA crashes with the process of updating itself on Windows server 2016. Did that on my deployment server running Otter and Windows server 2016; gave the file is in use error when trying to install (never happens on Windows 10, and they come from the same code base), and then I went to find the shortcut, and it gave me an error about not being able to find the file; running the executable directly brings up a nice error sound with no visible mmessage; just a sound with nothing on the screen. In light of that, I would rather use the MSI (Or MSU (Windows update file process)) for updating servers since that's what they understand the best. Who knows ... can you use WSUS to deploy custom packages? Thought ...

I used this command line parameters to get NVDA on the servers. I got a few errors of sound cards and other stuff but those copies work with nvda remote and my modified start icon.

Command line parameters for installer: nvda_2017.3.exe --install-silent --minimal

I also played a little bit with some free wix editors: wixedit: looks nice but it seems to forget where its source files are. iswix: looks pretty complex and not very nice to navigate. there are some others but they seem to be outdated or just for visual studio.

I plan to do more than that; we need something for NVDA that will be reliable on servers; this might be a different issue, but it seems that NVDA crashes with the process of updating itself on Windows server 2016. Did that on my deployment server running Otter and Windows server 2016; gave the file is in use error when trying to install (never happens on Windows 10, and they come from the same code base), and then I went to find the shortcut, and it gave me an error about not being able to find the file; running the executable directly brings up a nice error sound with no visible mmessage; just a sound with nothing on the screen. Anyone heard of a MSI package for NVDA?

I also have a second idea also to distribute nvda. I plan to write a batch script that uses robocopy to distribute a portable install of nvda and drops a preconfigured desktop icon on the public desktop.

i guess thats better than dropping the folder onto the computer using a gpo. pushing 100 mb across a network with workstations with a slow connection might not be fun while the user logs in.

It also might be a good idea to drop a message to the NVDA devs that more and more seem to want to distribute NVDA over many computers which is easier done with something automated.

Anyone heard of a MSI package for NVDA?

I also have a second idea also to distribute nvda. I plan to write a batch script that uses robocopy to distribute a portable install of nvda and drops a preconfigured desktop icon on the public desktop.

i guess thats better than dropping the folder onto the computer using a gpo. pushing 100 mb across a network with workstations with a slow connection might not be fun while the user logs in.

It also might be a good idea to drop a message to the NVDA devs that more and more seem to want to distribute NVDA over many computers which is easier done with something automated.

Hi, will look that with teamviewer up. i would just use the audio channel for a short time because its pretty annoying with the delay it has. NVDA just sends commands and text so it can be used on a very low quality connection which is nice. We have some connections where i just iniciate the connection and run nvda using tv (teamviewer) and then disconnect it. and then i use NVDA's remote plugin because that uses less data. Simon, RDP is just a remote log in protocol for win blows. I believe it has a separate audio channel that’s part of the protocol so you should be able to route audio back.
