Article: Employers still reluctant to hire blind employees
This article is a must read for anyone interested in the conversation we've been having about bias against hiring the blind. Note that it says almost exactly what we've been saying -- things are way better but still very bad. One thing I'd add is that the things we did in the 70s and 80s to get us this far won't necessarily help us take that next step. The problem therewith is, at least where I've been looking, they want that warm body in seat #99 behind desk #99 answering phone #99. In my main line of work, which system administration but not for anything with an M on it or that comes in blue, when I first started looking in 2006, there were 24-month renewable contracts, remote work negotiable. Now, it's three months, probably non-renewable, must be on-site. It's bad all over, and being blind just adds insult to injury.
