Folks, Have any of you used this? Good, Bad? It looks like it might be riddled with JAVA? We're back at the drawing board and the heats turning up in here. I need to find an Accessible Helpdesk solution that has asset management, and AD integration ASAP or there might have to be some serious conversations... Thanks, Barry. Hi Darragh, We wouldn't have the skilled staff for that kind of thing. I haven't coded in years or I'd give it a bash, but it's a huge under taking. Funny I was just thinking to myself, I'd love to code one up and be done with this. But that would involve learning how to first write a site with a db back end, OK fair enough html, css and php. But how would you integrate Active Directory, pipe emails in and out etc. It's difficult enough finding one someone else has written. Actually, from memory, it's pretty easy to authenticate users in ad using ldap in PHP. Around 6 years ago my school wanted a web ui for simple functions like creating accounts and they asked me to build it; unfortunately I never got round to finishing it and the code is long gone due to a dead drive. I'm sorry I can't offer anything constructive to say regarding your issue, but I find it really hard to believe that there isn't a purely web based solution - E.G. front end consisting of HTML, CSS and a little bit of JS that wouldn't solve your problems. Even if you find something parcially accessible, it shouldn't be too much of a headake to make it fully usable if it's open source. Cheers, Ben. Hi, A quick Google tells me that http://www.webhelpdesk.com is web based, supports active directory, has an iPhone app and has a demo available. No mention of asset management, but depending on exactly what you want, from a programming point of view, this really shouldn't be that hard to write yourself if you have some coding experience. Cheers, Ben. On 2/14/13, Ben Mustill-Rose <ben@benmr.com> wrote:

Hi, Yes its messy in terms of access. Did you try the following: www.sitehelpdesk.com (the one we use here for asset management, fault logging etc) www.cerberusweb.com (more CRM features, but very nice tech helpdesk solution) www.bestpractical.com (free helpdesk solution, more email trouble ticket system really) Andrew. ________________________________________ From: Blind-sysadmins [blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] on behalf of Barry Toner [Barry.Toner@clanmil.org.uk] Sent: 14 February 2013 11:40 To: blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Manage Engine Folks, Have any of you used this? Hi, Yep, the management here like the products because they seem quite cheap, to me they are not cheap and not worth the money, it is a software factory which just shoves out tonnes of products. Interestingly I may need to add F5 to the list of products which are getting hard web interfaces. I rather embarrasingly had a support case open with F5 after upgrading our units to 11.3, this was from 11.2. The new web interface is very pull-down menu driven, and I was waiting for ages to get an answer back from support thinking I had a system issue with config synchronisation, when in fact it was working fine and I didn't realise that part of the web interface contains hidden buttons which I had to click on to access further features! Andrew, I agree with you. There's a few juniper web content switches here. Their no longer supported but that's a different story. I called support because when adding a new cluster not all the buttons refered to in the documentation were visible. To my imarrusment I was told that there was a graphic to the left of one of the edit fields. I still couldn't find it though so I had to ask someone here to help. I agree with your thought's on manage engine as well. We use their syslog software. Their support gives the word shoddy a bad reputation. Hi, To be fair to the F5 when I enter on the text and do a JFW efresh the relevant information is visible. It is interesting though how people manage to find their way around these GUIs. For the F5 there is a command line interface to this stuff but I am finding it a bit clunky at the moment, am getting a bit more used to it though.
