Hello everyone: The ISO images for the Windows 10 insider build with talking install have been posted. You can download them at this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewadvan... Note that you do need to be in the Windows Insiders program to access these images, membership is free with a valid copy of Windows. These ISOs are accessible regardless of if you are on the slow or fast ring. The instructions are below, please note that as you will be playing with the Windows installation process, I recommend not doing this on your primary machine unless you have a really really good backup. AKA, do this on a VM or a test machine if at all possible. a. Download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 b. From that page, follow the instructions for creating bootable media to install Windows on another computer. You will need a USB drive at this point. This process will format the drive appropriately, download a copy of Windows 10 and put all the files on the USB drive. Note these are not the files you will ultimately use but this step gets your USB drive ready. c. When this process is done, open the USB drive in File Explorer and delete all the files. d. Now download the 15002 ISO file and open it in File Explorer. e. Copy all the files from the 15002 ISO you just opened to your USB drive. f. If you want to use a newer ISO down the road, just repeat steps C, D, and E here. That is, update your bootable media with newer files. g. If you want to use diskpart instead of the Media Creation tool to make the bootable USB with ISO, instead of steps a,b, & c above, the following commands will delete all files on the USB and make it bootable: i. Open the command prompt ii. Type: diskpart iii. Type: list disk iv. This will show all connected disks, their disk numbers, connection status and disk size v. Using the sizes, determine which disk is your USB drive and remember its disk number (i.e. Disk 2) vi. Type the following commands: (where X is the disk number of your USB drive) 1. sel dis X 2. clean 3. cre par pri 4. active 5. format fs=FAT32 Quick 6. exit h. Once the disk is formatted and prepared, you can copy the Windows installation files onto the disk from the ISO. 4. Install Windows a. Once your Computer is set to boot using the new drive and you have the USB bootable drive with the ISO image ready, insert the bootable USB drive and power on the PC. i. Ideally have a USB headset connected, although we've found Surface Pro speakers and onboard sound from several other computers will also work. b. Wait about 10-15 seconds and then press CTRL+Win+Enter to start Narrator. If you hear Narrator talking, you will be good to go. If you do not, try other USB audio hardware. To be clear, there are some configurations that will not work at this point. If you hit a point where audio won't work, power the PC off, remove the USB drive and power the PC back on. You should be back in your copy of Windows that was previously installed. c. Follow the questions and process for installing Windows. i. When you are asked to choose a partition, the best one to use will likely be selected by default. To read partition sizes, use Narrator table reading commands of CAPS+F3 and CAPS+F4. Caps+F3 will read a row cell by cell where you will hear the details about the selected partition. ii. Since you are likely installing on to a partition that has already had windows, you can pick between formatting the partition or not. If you do not format, you'll get a message about an existing copy of Windows already being present and saying that will be moved to Windows.old. You are not able to restore this but your files and such will be in there. Do not rely on this as a guarantee that you can get your files. iii. If you encounter something saying rich text, use Narrator's caps+m to read the text. iv. Pay close attention once the install starts. You'll hear a message about preparing installation repeated multiple times. You'll then hear a prompt talking about a restart. It is important you remove the USB drive at this point or you will start the entire process over. d. Wait about 30-60 seconds after the restart and press ctrl+win+enter again to start Narrator. You are now going through more of the typical setup. Note that this build 15002 also has a feature where you can try and use Cortana to answer some setup questions. You can try this out also. I'm having a little trouble accomplishing this. I'm using a Windows 7 professional machine to create the media. I've downloaded the media creation tool and the iso file. Whenever I run the media creation tool it can't find any usb devices attached to my computer. Diskpart and list disk show no usb drives either, only my 2 hard drive partitions. I also was unable to open the iso file in file explorer. It wants to start a dvd burn right away. I must be missing something fundamental here. Any help appreciated. Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Ryan Shugart via Blind-sysadmins Sent: Thursday, January 19, 2017 3:49 PM To: Blind sysadmins list Cc: Ryan Shugart Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Windows PE with Narrator Hello everyone: The ISO images for the Windows 10 insider build with talking install have been posted. I can help with the second question ... You said Windows 7, right? ISOs don't auto-mount in anything below Windows 8; you need something like Virtual Clone drive installed for this to work. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Troy Hergert Sent: Monday, January 23, 2017 8:36 AM To: Blind sysadmins list <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Windows PE with Narrator I'm having a little trouble accomplishing this. Ryan, Would it in theory be possible to replace the wim image inside the iso file with one from an older version of Windows? that way people who need to install an older version of Windows but don't want to use tools like talking PE which are in a bit of a grey area legally can do so. If Microsoft supports talking PE, then I don't think there's anything to worry about. If Microsoft is making their products accessible, then let's be happy with how they are working with us. LOL. By the way, did Rufus fix their inaccessibility within their interface? I could never seem to get it to talk. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Ben Mustill-Rose Sent: Monday, January 23, 2017 1:21 PM To: Blind sysadmins list <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Windows PE with Narrator Ryan, Would it in theory be possible to replace the wim image inside the iso file with one from an older version of Windows? that way people who need to install an older version of Windows but don't want to use tools like talking PE which are in a bit of a grey area legally can do so. Hello everyone: The ISO images for the Windows 10 insider build with talking install have been posted. You can download them at this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderprev iewadvanced

Hi, With respect I think you're missing the point. The iso's of talking PE that have been floating around for a few years are illegal. You can't distribute a PE image unless you're an OEM & we all know about the NVDA & Eloquence situation. Doubtless people inside MS are aware of these files and to be fair they appear to have chosen not to bring action against anyone, but the fact still remains that they're illegal. Do what you want in your own home, but personally I'd feel uncomfortable using them at work which is why I'm trying to determine if we can use the talking MS installer as a base for older OS'is. Hi Ben: At this point, it is not supported to replace the WIM file in the ISO. If you use SCCM or WDS to install Windows, then it will be supported to boot from a Windows PE image and call a different WIM over the network, but for the interactive ISO install you will need to use the provided WIM.

Hello everyone: The ISO images for the Windows 10 insider build with talking install have been posted. You can download them at this link: https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindowsinsiderprev&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=GsPbKPqOQlsJJ%2FvSGl36on4HvNgR2uWlAaMOnIynawY%3D&reserved=0 iewadvanced
AKA, do this on a VM or a test machine if at all possible. a. Download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool from https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows10&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=WYzkPqoPCUGw1YG1S5F2ILO1QcfdAFThRWxK%2BXUfjeY%3D&reserved=0 b. Download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool from https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows10&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=WYzkPqoPCUGw1YG1S5F2ILO1QcfdAFThRWxK%2BXUfjeY%3D&reserved=0 b.

Hi, I mean I wouldn't need an official MS doc, just enough steps so I would be able to configure it. :) Although certainly it would be good to have it documented in due time. By the way, did Rufus fix their inaccessibility within their interface? I could never seem to get it to talk.

Ryan,
Would it in theory be possible to replace the wim image inside the iso file with one from an older version of Windows? that way people who need to install an older version of Windows but don't want to use tools like talking PE which are in a bit of a grey area legally can do so.
Cheers, Ben.

I also was unable to open the iso file in file explorer. It wants to start a dvd burn right away. I must be missing something fundamental here. Any help appreciated.

Hello everyone: The ISO images for the Windows 10 insider build with talking install have been posted. AKA, do this on a VM or a test machine if at all possible. a. Download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool from https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows10&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=WYzkPqoPCUGw1YG1S5F2ILO1QcfdAFThRWxK%2BXUfjeY%3D&reserved=0 b. Hi there Mika: I'm really excited to hear how much you want to play and work with the talking Windows PE environment, and trust me, we are taking feedback on this very seriously. A couple points, however. At this point, the talking PE environment is only available in the Windows Insider builds of Windows. These are beta quality builds, and aren't meant for production use, and this includes the associated tools such as the PE environment. Therefore, it would not be a good idea to run this Windows PE environment in a production environment as you'd get absolutely no support from Microsoft official channels if something went wrong and we could make no guarantees at this point. Also, on the more practical side, SCCM, and I believe WDS, use the version of Windows PE bundled with the Windows Assessment and Deployment Toolkit. The ADK hasn't been updated yet with the version of Windows PE with Narrator, and this probably won't happen until the Creator's update goes out. There may also be an SCCM update needed to work with that version of PE. So for right now, unfortunately, this PE build can't be integrated into anything beyond the ISO downloads available from the insiders hub. Once we have that working, we'll expand it on from there. Hope this clarifies things. Hello everyone: The ISO images for the Windows 10 insider build with talking install have been posted. You can download them at this link: https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindowsinsiderprev&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=GsPbKPqOQlsJJ%2FvSGl36on4HvNgR2uWlAaMOnIynawY%3D&reserved=0 iewadvanced
AKA, do this on a VM or a test machine if at all possible. a. Download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool from https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows10&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=WYzkPqoPCUGw1YG1S5F2ILO1QcfdAFThRWxK%2BXUfjeY%3D&reserved=0 b.

Download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool from https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows10&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=WYzkPqoPCUGw1YG1S5F2ILO1QcfdAFThRWxK%2BXUfjeY%3D&reserved=0 b.

Hi Mika: Not at this time. I raised this issue quite a while ago and will revisit it to see what the status is. If Microsoft supports talking PE, then I don't think there's anything to worry about. If Microsoft is making their products accessible, then let's be happy with how they are working with us. LOL. By the way, did Rufus fix their inaccessibility within their interface? I could never seem to get it to talk.

Ryan,
Would it in theory be possible to replace the wim image inside the iso file with one from an older version of Windows? that way people who need to install an older version of Windows but don't want to use tools like talking PE which are in a bit of a grey area legally can do so.
Cheers, Ben.

Hi Ben: At this point, it is not supported to replace the WIM file in the ISO. If you use SCCM or WDS to install Windows, then it will be supported to boot from a Windows PE image and call a different WIM over the network, but for the interactive ISO install you will need to use the provided WIM. Ryan,
Would it in theory be possible to replace the wim image inside the iso file with one from an older version of Windows? that way people who need to install an older version of Windows but don't want to use tools like talking PE which are in a bit of a grey area legally can do so.
Cheers, Ben.

Hello everyone: The ISO images for the Windows 10 insider build with talking install have been posted. You can download them at this link: https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindowsinsiderprev&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=GsPbKPqOQlsJJ%2FvSGl36on4HvNgR2uWlAaMOnIynawY%3D&reserved=0 iewadvanced
AKA, do this on a VM or a test machine if at all possible. a. Download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool from https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows10&data=02%7C01%7Cryshugar%40microsoft.com%7Cbff092c756c2476dd98e08d443c090e5%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636207941727736371&sdata=WYzkPqoPCUGw1YG1S5F2ILO1QcfdAFThRWxK%2BXUfjeY%3D&reserved=0 b.
