A course for those interested in Linux Server Administration
Hi list This is sort of off topic, but I know there are Linux users on here who might be interested in honing their skills and taking one of the courses which are due to commence in February at the Cavi institute. It doesn't matter where in the world you live as everything can be done over the internet. The name of the course is: Intro to Linux Server Administration, a course that covers command line Ubuntu basics and server administration There is also an advanced course for those who are not complete beginners. As I know very little myself I thought it would be interesting to take this course and because it is completely aimed at people with visual impairments, there is no problem with accessing material and labs etc. The website states that the courses are $500 per semester, but after contacting them it appears that if you are paying for yourself then it's only $150 which seems exceptionally good value for a completely accessible course. Apparently the intake for the Linux courses are a little low this year and so I thought I'd bring it to the attention of those on the list who might be interested. Main website is: http://www.cavitraining.com/ Here you can find out more detailed information about the course and download a brochure and application form. Darren.
Are they accredited? It's fine taking a course but unless it's internationally recognised then there's little point when applying for a job. The point is to increase base skil level not make people employable through this course. the Redhat trainings have become inaccessible in many places and we're looking long-term at the Ubuntu certifications. this course is meant to provide a base level of knowledge for someone with minimal command-line experience. Undertaking a "real" certification is far easier once you can write a shell script or two and you have all your terminal emulator machinery working for you. This is an intro level course like those run at a community coledge. If you can bring up apache, edit some config files on the box itself via ssh with a Unix editor this course is not for you. regards, Kerry. On 28/01/2013 4:42 PM, Darragh OHeiligh wrote:
