Hi, I don’t want to resurrect old topic, just wanted to share my findings. I was able to configure NVDA remote on a server without sound card and get it to work. On a controlling machine. I have configured NVDA remote as a server, control another machine, generated key, saved key, okay. On a remote machine, installed NVDA remote, configured the machine as client, allow this machine to be controlled. Pasted key entered host name, okay. Went to NVDA remote options and checked enable auto startup/auto-connect. In the NVDA options, I have enabled NVDA to start on the logon screen and after logon. F11 does not work no matter what. Windows firewalls off, it says controlling remote server but nothing happens. I am on the same local network, not even via VPN or anything like that. The NVDA 2019 is working now over RDP. When everything is configured to start automatically, all I have to do, is just connect via RDP and I have working NVDA. In my case I didn’t have to start audio service and no sound card on server 2008. Basically establish NVDA remote connection first and then RDP in. It’s not that bad if you don’t have access to the JAWS screen reader. I am happy to see it working via remote desktop protocol. -----Original Message----- From: Simon Eigeldinger <simon.eigeldinger@vol.at> Sent: Saturday, November 30, 2019 11:17 AM To: Anatoliy Shudrya <anatoliyshudrya@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: NVDA remote Hi, Now i see which problem you seem to have. When you have some connection you go to the nvda menu and go to tools and then to nvda remote. then you go to options. then you can enable to start the remote plugin at start up of nvda and connect to a server. then enter the host and a defined key. that should fix it. Hi,
I have tested again via VPN, waited for about 15 mins, the client still did not connect to server.
Tested on a local network, connected no problem and was able to control remote machine within couple of seconds.
It is really inconvenient to start NVDA on the remote machine, navigate to remote control and generate new key every time I’d like to control machine remotely. Not only that, I need to think of a way how to transfer the key to the client machine. Every time NVDA restarted, it loses its generated key, bummer!
This kind of setup does not seem to be very practical for me. I probably better off be using team viewer or LogMeIn when JAWS and remote desktop gives me hard time.
I still want to test setup without sound card. I have one old 2008 server at work. I will RDP in, use JAWS 2020 to configure NVDA remote settings and then try to connect with client. I will see where it gets me next week.
So far, JAWS is the king in remote controlling. They even fixed where you don’t have to turn off and turn on JAWS on the remote machine when ever you reconnect, simply Awesome!
Thank you Simon for the NVDA remote tips.

Hi,
Should actually work as you describe. What i have noticed is that NVDA needs a longer time to connect when using win 10 or server 2016 and 2019. I had to wait around 30 seconds up to 1 minute to get a connection.

Hi,
I have ran a quick test this evening.
VPN into my work network, windows firewalls off. Installed NVDA remote on my office PC, generated key, selected server option.
On my home PC, installed NVDA remote, selected client, control remote computer, okay, connected successful.
When I press F11, it says controlling remote computer, but nothing happens with my keyboard. I tried to tab, error keys, windows key, just nothing. Am I missing something? I press F11 one more time and it says controlling local computer.
Scripts and share drive sounds like a great idea, but I don’t work very often deploying new servers or remotely controlling desktops. Just small projects here and there, mostly with physical servers/desktops. I guess wanted to try out NVDA remote options and experience out of the box experience.

Hi,
On my servers we also don't have sound. I let my sighted friends install NVDA. I also made a script that installs nvda silently. then i let copy the nvda icon on the public desktop which loads the shared nvda settings from a server so you can press a shortcut when logged in which automatically connects to the nvda remote server.
Greetings, Simon

I was going to try NVDA remote in my recent server 2019 setup/builds but wasn't sure if it will work without sound card on a server. With JAWS, I setup JAWS on the server, RDP in and continue my work, really awesome. With NVDA remote, it seamed to have way too many steps to setup and connect to.
Does anybody know if NVDA remote will work without sound card/drivers on the remote server?

Hi Anatoliy, You can also enter what ever you want into the key field. But i guess you have figured that out yourself. I for example have in my configuration a preset key which i also can remember. *smile* Greetings, Simon Am 05.12.2019 um 16:23 schrieb Anatoliy Shudrya:
