Hi folks, Firstly let me thank you all for your feedback on my meeting I was due to have on Tuesday. I've saved these. The meeting hasn't taken place yet. I've just gotten a request to set a user's Out Of Office. How our Net Admin normally does this is RDP into Exchange. I don't' currently have any RDP licences for JAWS. Is there another way I can do this from my own computer? I'm trying to find a solution before I speak to my Manager. I'd rather bring him a solution than leave it in his hands to work out. I am being promised as soon as the Net Admin gets back I will be granted Administrator privileges. We do have Spiceworks installed on our servers, and I've found this article on how I can do it through there. http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/1044-modify-outlook-exchange -out-of-office-reply-for-another-user How would the rest of you Sys Admins go about this? Hi, Yes you need to install the System Manager for 2003. I haven't had experience with this unfortunately. On a 2007 system I would give myself full mailbox access via the local console installed on my PC, then log in to OWA using my credentials, then change the URL to point to the other user mailbox, then set it in the options. You can't change the out of office directly in the console, but it may be an option in Systems Manager under 2003. We also have a product to do this for us with the helpdesk called Symprex out of office manager, which can be installed on the server or remotely, which makes this a lot more easier. It could be something like this that they are using. Do they have any procedures for this type of work? Thanks. Andrew. ________________________________________ From: Blind-sysadmins [blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] on behalf of Barry Toner [Barry.Toner@clanmil.org.uk] Sent: 13 December 2012 11:16 To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Connecting to Exchange Hi, We're running Exchange 2003. Thanks. Hi, Not really as the licenses are all with the helpdesk guys but when I used it last it was ok if I remember. I never like giving people complete access to mailboxes or servers, so try and find scripts or tools to do this where possible. I also like the Spiceworks solution you posted earlier - do you use Spiceworks at the moment? Hi, Cheers for all that! That's the thing I think if I'm allowed to use scripts and tools there shouldn't' be really any hassles with me in my role here, and even in-terms of developing my role over time. Allot of things seem to be log directly into Servers through RDP sessions. I had to explain what the Admin Toolkit was. Spiceworks is lovely! It's a bit of a Swiss Army Knife approach, but the alerts I'm getting from our printers running low on Toner, what Server has been offline and for how long is pretty cool. It has a Helpdesk feature as well, but I've not look too far into it. My Manager doesn't like it because it's not a commercial product, and views it as a moving target. Myself and the Net Admin really like it. I think I'm going to be allowed to use it for Network monitoring. Which my Manager reluctantly has pretty mucha greed to. He's a real good guy, but before I came they purchased PRTG for Networking monitoring. The Net Admin wasn't a fan of it, and it's extreme on the graphics, and doesn't' play nice with JAWS or NVDA. I got the impression my manager didn't' like that Spiceworks has ads built into it. However, these ads are only shown to the Techs and not the End-users. Hi, One thing I forgot to add. We don't seem to have really any formal procedures within the IT Department at the moment. Over this coming year there are going to be huge changes, but it's all been pretty much on an ad-hok basis, with some hastily created spread sheets etc to keep track of things. This at times frustrating, but I remind myself joining such a young IT team can actually work to my advantage in some ways. Barry. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Andrew Hodgson Sent: 13 December 2012 12:56 To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Connecting to Exchange Hi, Yes you need to install the System Manager for 2003. Thanks. Hi, As we're using 2K3 it seems we can use Exchange System Manager in that case. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995785(v=exchg.65).aspx The download for Vista is here, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995785(v=exchg.65).aspx I have managed to fudge it for Windows 7 by using this Sys Admin's guide here, http://ptihosting.com/blog/it-blog/how-to-install-exchange-system-manager-on... I had to change the switch from /qb to -qb to get it to install. The thing is now, I've no idea where the Exchange snapshot would be located. Exchange isnt' showing up under the 31 Admin Tools I have under Remote Tools in the start menu. I've found a VB script that claims to allow a machine that has ESM and is connected to the domain to change the OOF's. Looking at the script it needs the AD address and other bits. I've check the code and it looks OK. All you need to do is copy the script from the browser, save it to a .txt then change the extension to .vbs after edidting your domain details. I've sent the URL to my net Admin, before doing anything further. I know people can get very twitchy when you start talking about scripts and asking for domain .information The info is here as an FYI, http://searchexchange.techtarget.com/answer/Can-an-admin-create-out-of-offic...
