Thank you everyone who responded to this. It was very frustrating when excel crashed on the admin workstation, especially after I did whole OS reinstall, applications reinstalling, configuring etc. Timothy, I don't think I will send the crash dump file now, I got it all fixed.
Here is what happened: I have reinstalled my OS from manufacture recovery disks, installed JAWS, NVDA, and of course first stop to uninstall all manufacture bloatware. On the list was Ms. Office 2010, I have uninstalled it and proceeded with setup of office 365 ProPlus. This is where all crashes started. Oh, little did I know that I needed to use Microsoft easy fix to completely remove partially preinstalled Office 2010 by Lenovo. The uninstall from programs and features did not work at all, even when everything seemed to be uninstalled.
Tonight, after a day off out of office. Remotely logged in, uninstalled office 365, rebooted machine, ran MicrosoftEasyFix50450 to remove all remnants of office 2010 partial preinstall, installed fresh office 365 and voila, excel works like a charm.
I recall this have helped me multiple times already, when dealing between different versions of office; don't know why I could not think straight yesterday. One time in-place upgrade from office 365 2013 to office 365 2016 crashed my outlook, the other time installing office 365 2016 crashed end-user's excel because I didn't uninstall office 2010 beforehand. It seems like fresh copy of office, no matter what package cannot coexist with any older versions of office packages, at least in my observations/experiences.
Kind Regards,
Anatoliy

Thank you and is the Microsoft Office Easy Fix utility something in your office distribution of install files, or a utility you download?
Best,
Mika

The easy fix utility, I had to download from Microsoft website. The one I have used was specifically for Office 2010. I believe they have different once for different office installations, Timothy, please correct me if I am wrong.
Kind Regards,
Anatoliy

Guys,
Glad we got this sorted but is it possible we could keep this list focused on sysadmin stuff please?
Thanks.
Andrew.

In doing some digging to find the fixit utility, I found this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971179 that has information on removing Office 2007/2010/2013 in different tabs of the page.
I don't know if the underlying utility is different or not though.

I have had the same problem but only within the last week or so. I am also using a Windows 7 64-bit laptop with O365.
I re-installed O365 after using the easy fix and this has made Excel slightly less prone to crash, but I have still had the occasional crash since the re-install.
I also notice that, if I close down Excel, it frequently re-opens and displays a blank spreadsheet. This has only started happening in the last month or so. The re-installation of O365 did not cure this problem unfortunately.
Caroline.
