I fear I know the answer to this, but I'd rather not assume. I'm working on my CCNA course, and am curious if there's any way at all to do router simulations of any sort without having a physical device. While I can use the devices at where I'm taking the class, there are times I want to try something without having to wait to go in and use them. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Absolutely, There are some Cisco emulators out there that are free and allow you to run standard IOS images on a PPC emulator. Google around for dynamaps and or dynagen for more info. The idea is you build your simulated network in a simple markup language in a flat text file, the file loads and it spins up the instances you need with the simulated links between the elements. It's a great way to learn some routing protocols and see what they do in a virtual environment. CPU load is quite high but for a quick prototyping session or a great lab in a box solution. My experience was the dynamaps stuff was absolutely accessible since it was all based on flat files and batches.
