Does anyone know what the processor is in the Plextalk Pocket? I'm wondering this because of the boot up time. Is that the reason for the very long wait when turning it on from an off state? - Thanks, Gene

Hi William,
I think it sounds like you haven't quite understood the 2 states.
Essentially, you will save more power if you turn the unit off completely.
I believe that the only thing that is then using power is the internal
clock. The point of the Power Save mode is to be more efficient than it
would be if you left the unit switched on.
The disadvantage of switching off completely is that it takes around 40 or
50 seconds to boot up again whereas from Power Save mode it is almost
instant.
Hence it is a case of "what you win on the swings, you lose on the
roundabouts". If rapid use is important, then leave it turned on, if
battery life is important, switch the unit off completely. If you want the
in between option, go for Power Save mode.
Hope that makes it clearer.

Adrian,
In addition to what Clifford is saying, for clarification
Plextalk have the
following products which are in circulation:
PTR1 (no longer available) - desk sized DAISY recorder and
playback device
with CD and PCMCIA slot options.
PTR2 - desk sized DAISY recorder and playback device with CD
and CF card
options
PTN1 - DAISY playback device with only CD option.
PTN2 - DAISY playback device with CD, SD and USB options.
PTX1 - DAISY playback device with CD, USB, SD and internal
memory options.
Can also stream on line DAISY content.
Pocket (PTP1) - DAISY recorder and playback device with SD
and mini USB
options.
PRS - Plextalk Recording Software (supplied with the PTR1,
PTR2 and PTP1)
More information on the current products at the following
website:

I've probably missed out some of the detail or products but
at least you get
the general idea.
Regards,
Jamie

Hi, sure, I respect what you feel and its all fine. Wel, I love the
ptr2 the way it is, but maybe they could make it a little faster, when
you press keys like volume and such, and just in general its not nice
that ptp1 get new features but ptr2 don't. I mean why don't they also
give it guide speed and guide volume for example?

Ed Lopez back here. It has ben a wile sense I ben on this list, it sounds like you may have a bad sell in the battery. I only use memory cards made by Sandisc. I get the hyer speed memory cards. That is, the memory on the cards has a more faster transfer rate. This also may save on battery life as well. I get about 7 to 8 hours on my PTP1 in recording and playing. Try giving the battery a good drain and charging it for a good 8 hours. If this doesn't help, I would get another battery.

A very good point there.

Hi, yes, you rite, sorry I forgot about that it actually have guide
volume, I just were quickly trying to think of an example to give you
and ended up mentioning something that was already there. But I can
also on the other hand understand why the machine is a bit slow with
cd's, but they should make things faster wich don't depend on the
drive spinning, like when editing on a cf card, and when pressing the
volume up or down keys rapidly and move faster in the menu and so on.
No its maybe not a big thing, but I just notice how that was improved
on ptp1 and I no on ptn2 its stil a bit slow. But I love ptr2 and I
would use it alot even if they don't improve it at all. Thank you for
your thoughts.
