I doubt it will work, its stil an apple format for the most part. Rather convert the files to mp3. But yes, they seem to not really like to implement more file formats. never tried it, but M4A like MP4 is a container format. That means it contains probably formats like MP3. So I suggest to copy your M4A files into a folder and rename it to MP3. Perhaps it works and your unit will play them.
