Thank you. I have successfully updated the firmware. Previously I had tried to use the English version but as the device originated in the USA I should have used the US update. Unfortunately, it has not resolved the original problem of a bad connection between the USB port and the USB Lead. Most of the time I am getting the message ' No USB media'. So is it the lead or port on the Pocket? in addition to what already have been said: Have you picked up the right update package for your unit? If your device is branded for Europe you can't install an American update. When I bought my first ptp1 on Ebay the owner was an American citizen, who lived in Germany - and of course the speech on the PTP1 was in English. I tried to install the German software package (like I did years ago on my PTR1) but that didn't work with the PTP1. So keep in mind you only can install the right software for the for the right device.
