Hi Frank,
Although I've never used it, I believe that NetPlextalk is a computer software programme that allows you to hook into the RNIB Talking Books library and download and play DAISY content on your computer. I don't know if it is available elsewhere but it is an alternative to having a hardware player.

Kelly,
What is netplextalk?
Although I do not know of a newer version of the ptx1 there is very likely a version upgrade to its firmware that you should be able to download. The ptp1 is on firmware version 5 and I think that the ptx1 is also several years old. ..

No, you can't connect to network and you can't record. You can play off sd Cards and usb. It has an internal memory and can play daisy books, cd, cd roms and mp3 discs. It has a 4 hour rechargeable battery.

Kelsey,
Someone else might be able to better answer your questions. I have more questions for you than answers.
is the ptx1 mostly a player or does it record audio with a microphone as well? What is netplextalk?
Most of us on this list use the other 3 models of plextalk, the ptr1, ptr2 and ptp1. all of these units play and record. Only the ptp1 also has network connection capability It is the newest model of plextalk. It was released first in december of 2008.

Hi, I've just joined this list. I have a Ptx1 and use NetPlexTalk. I've used Ptx1 for 3 years and NetPlexTalk for about 3 weeks. I have a question. Is there a newer Plextalk player after the Ptx1? If so, what are the new features? Thanks! Kelsey
