Thanks Marc for your prompt response. I have a CD cleaning disc, which I put into the machine, but it has not helped. It looks as though this machine will go to the great talking book library in the sky. My wife has a PTX1, and two PTR2 machines, so we will move some machines around so there is one to replace the one that has broken. Best wishes, Peter
