Hi Aidan, No, you are absolutely correct on this one. For recording in DAISY format, standard CD-R or CD-RW discs will work absolutely fine but, if you want to record direct on to a disc in digital audio format (i.e. .CDA format) that can then be taken to be played on a standard CD player, the discs must be of the correct audio format in the first place. Essentially, if you bung in a blank data CD, the PTR2 will default automatically to recording in DAISY format. If you insert a blank digital audio CD, PTR2 will recognise the difference and will record in .CDA format. I don't know how you've done this unless you are talking about using a computer and just having the PTR2 as a dumb drive. In this instance, you may well have had success. If you are simply recording direct onto a CD, it should have worked as I mentioned in the previous message. Just to introduce some other thoughts on this matter. Jamie is correct. Unless your blank is a digital audio CD, not just a CDR you will not be able to play it on a standard CD music player. However, its getting harder and harder to find a "standard CD player." When you record music on a standard CDR it creates either .wav or .mp3 files, they are just not at the root of the disk. It is actually pretty hard to find an off the shelf CD player now days that cannot play multiple formats including mp3. perhaps even deal with the daisy folder structure. Wel I had good results with other cd recorders when I record .CDA format on a data disk, and then play them in the newer standard players, but as you said, most players now handle alot of formats, and therefore, it should also work smoovely with data disks containing .CDA format. I just stil don't get how you can record in .CDA on a data disk on ptr2, maybe on other recorders yes. I struggle to believe that could be possible. Ptr2 will identify the type of blank disk you insert, and speak the relevant message. Therefore there is no option anywhere in the menus to switch between daisy 2.02 or .CDA. PlexTalk said they have done it in that way to support copy protection or whatever. No, you are absolutely correct on this one.
For recording in DAISY format, standard CD-R or CD-RW discs will work absolutely fine but, if you want to record direct on to a disc in digital audio format (i.e. .CDA format) that can then be taken to be played on a standard CD player, the discs must be of the correct audio format in the first place.
Essentially, if you bung in a blank data CD, the PTR2 will default automatically to recording in DAISY format. If you insert a blank digital audio CD, PTR2 will recognise the difference and will record in .CDA format.

Wel I had good results with other cd recorders when I record .CDA format on a data disk, and then play them in the newer standard players, but as you said, most players now handle alot of formats, and therefore, it should also work smoovely with data disks containing .CDA format. I just stil don't get how you can record in .CDA on a data disk on ptr2, maybe on other recorders yes. I struggle to believe that could be possible. Ptr2 will identify the type of blank disk you insert, and speak the relevant message. Therefore there is no option anywhere in the menus to switch between daisy 2.02 or .CDA. PlexTalk said they have done it in that way to support copy protection or whatever. When you record music on a standard CDR it creates either .wav or .mp3 files, they are just not at the root of the disk. It is actually pretty hard to find an off the shelf CD player now days that cannot play multiple formats including mp3. perhaps even deal with the daisy folder structure. I wonder if you are both right.

I don't know how you've done this unless you are talking about using a computer and just having the PTR2 as a dumb drive. In this instance, you may well have had success.
If you are simply recording direct onto a CD, it should have worked as I mentioned in the previous message.

Hi Aidan, I think I bought these ones in Comet. To be honest, I think it took quite a lot of digging my heels in and a bit of luck that one of the assistants in the shop knew what I was meaning. The first guy that I spoke to didn't know that you could get CDs of this type and he had tried to sell me just standard blank data CDs. As I say, I can't remember if there was a specific logo on the box but on the discs there are only the "CD-R Audio" and "Digital audio" clues.
