The ptn2 can also do most or all of what the ptx can do, except for network related features. Although the PTX1 may not yet be able to connect to a network, the hardware certainly does have this capability, both through a RJ45 network socket and a wireless capability. If it has not been activated in your player, this is due to the firmware being restricted. I know that when RNIB released the player at first, it was intended that at some stage the update would be issued to bring these other features on stream. If that has not happened yet, or is no longer going to happen, Idon't know the current position. It might be worth asking RNIB Customer Services about this. If it has been activated for some people, it may be just a case of installing a firmware upgrade to activate the network features. Now back to your original question.... If you are asking about players that are available through the RNIB Talking Books Service, the PTX1, to my knowledge, is the most up-to-date player. The Plextalk Pocket (PTP1) is more recent but is not available through the library. It is a much more portable device and does allow you to record pretty decent quality audio. It plays back DAISY titles and a number of audio formats such as MP3, WAV. It can also play synthetically formats such as TXT, DOC and HTML. As someone else also mentioned, it can be linked by WIFI for playing internet radio or for file transfer to the computer. All in all a really quite nice compact player. To my mind, the real bonus of the PTX1 is its ability to play from CD, SD card or USB and the ability to transfer from CD to the other media without using a computer. None of the other players are as flexible in this regard. Hope this helps. What can the newest models do that this one can't?

You can also copy from CD to SD card or memory stick, and you can also store things in the internal memory. You cannot record on to CD though.
