Hi all I read somewhere that Nuance has not been developing the Realspeak voices for quite a few years now and that they have been replaced by the vocalizer voices. Wonder if Plextalk will also now switch to the new voices? They seem to have a smaller footprint than the older realspeak voices. Andre
According to the recent fscast on JAWS 14 the new voices take up a good bit of space. If so, they may not have room for them. It shure would be great, though. Tom But realspeak also took up quite a lot of space. What we seem to have on the Plextalk is a stripped down copy of realspeak with some rather horrible pronounciations of common words like the word wait Perhaps such a stripped down version of the vocalizer voices is available which will work better than realspeak at least! -----Original Message----- From: Plextalk [mailto:plextalk-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Tom Bilton Sent: 11 September 2012 01:28 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] new vocalizer voices for the plextalk According to the recent fscast on JAWS 14 the new voices take up a good bit of space. On the other hand, the Kindle Keyboard uses Nuance Vocalizer and it sounds a lot better than the Nuance Vocalizer on the plextalk pocket, book port plus anv victor reader stream. -----Original Message----- From: André van Deventer Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2012 5:15 AM To: 'Plextalk User Discussion List' Subject: Re: [Plextalk] new vocalizer voices for the plextalk Tom But realspeak also took up quite a lot of space. The pocket uses realspeak and not vocalizer. They are both made by Nuance but the realspeak voices are not being developed anymore while the vocalizer ones are the new ones. -----Original Message----- From: Plextalk [mailto:plextalk-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Russ Kiehne Sent: 11 September 2012 03:55 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] new vocalizer voices for the plextalk On the other hand, the Kindle Keyboard uses Nuance Vocalizer and it sounds a lot better than the Nuance Vocalizer on the plextalk pocket, book port plus anv victor reader stream. Actually, Realspeak and Vocalizer seem to sound just the same if you are using the full version. I have the Vocalizer voices with my NVDA and if you run them Premium High or Premium Quality, they sound great. If you run them in Compact Quality, then they sound just like the current voices on the Plextalk. Roger On 9/11/2012 4:28 AM, André van Deventer wrote:

If the footprint is indeed smaller than the realspeak voices, then they can perhaps fix some of the many pronounciation errors on the voices used with the Plextalk though. -----Original Message----- From: Plextalk [mailto:plextalk-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Roger Stewart Sent: 11 September 2012 04:15 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] new vocalizer voices for the plextalk Actually, Realspeak and Vocalizer seem to sound just the same if you are using the full version. I really don't know about the footprint of the two different families of voices, but obviously the better the quality of the voice, the more memory and power it takes so doubt if the higher quality voices could be put into the Plextalk although that would be great if it could be done. Wel, maybe that would be nice if they could improve that, but vocalizer and realspeak both sucks, so I rather use another player for my majority of text files. On 11/09/2012, Roger Stewart <paganus@wi.rr.com> wrote:

Wel, I use currently the BookSense xt for text files as it uses neo speech, and I plan to get the new BookPort desktop model wich uses acapela heather and riaan. That is much better. I do use vocalizer alot on the IPhone and I don't want to listen to much text files with it the way it is, and vocalizer is coming in jaws 14, wich is also a good place to use it, so at least for bookreaders they simply don't sound good enough.
